Coronation Street spoilers: Sad exit revealed as much-loved character leaves the Street after year of trauma

In Wednesday (December 20)’s Coronation Street, we waved goodbye to Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) – who was heading for a new life in Glasgow, much to the sadness of Carla Connor (Alison King) and Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney).

It’s been a tumultuous year for Ryan. His plans to move to Ibiza were destroyed and his life was turned upside down when he was caught up in the acid attack that stalker Justin (Andrew Still) launched at Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).

Ryan’s face was badly scarred by this and he faced months of physical pain and operations.

The mental effects were as bad, with Ryan’s self-confidence taking a massive knock as he came to terms with his altered appearance.

Girlfriend Crystal (Erin Austen) couldn’t cope with this and vanished. Daisy stepped in to try to cheer Ryan up by pretending to be Crystal and carrying on a text relationship with him.

As their feelings for each other grew, eventually Ryan discovered that ‘Crystal’ was actually Daisy.

Bound together by going through the same traumatic experience, Daisy and Ryan eventually couldn’t deny that they had feelings for each other and they slept together, despite Daisy being engaged to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

When Daniel found out about Daisy’s betrayal he was furious and made sure that Ryan wouldn’t be staying around in Weatherfield by sabotaging a job that Ryan had been offered locally.

This left Ryan with another option – to go with Crystal, who was back on the scene, and start a new life in Glasgow.

This episode saw him packing his bags as Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) gave him advice about the best pubs in Glasgow. Carla reminded him that Ryan had gone to university in the city and already knew his way around.

Then towards the end of the episode Ryan was ready to go to the airport to meet Crystal, with Peter driving him.

Debbie, who’s been a close friend to him, and his aunt Carla were there to wave him goodbye. Ryan asked Carla to say goodbye to Lauren (Cait Fitton) for him and she asked if there was anyone else he wanted her to say goodbye to – meaning Daisy. But he didn’t.

‘This is it then,’ he said, getting into the car. ‘I’ll see you.’

‘He’s not a many of many words, is he?’ Carla smiled sadly.

As the car rounded the corner Daisy was coming out of the shop and they exchanged glances as Ryan left the street.
