Lottie’s Yellowjackets Threat Explained: What Happens When Someone Refuses To Draw A Card
In the shocking Yellowjackets season 2 finale, Lottie and the women draw cards for the hunt. But what happens if someone doesn’t want to draw a card?
The Yellowjackets season 2 finale revealed some disturbing truths about the women’s past, but still left plenty of questions unanswered for the following season. With the six women reunited towards the end of season 2, Yellowjackets prepared the audience for a brutal finale. Thankfully, Yellowjackets was renewed for a third season back in December 2022, but it will be a while before fans get their questions answered.
With adult Lottie joining the cast of Yellowjackets season 2, fans were eager to see the part she played in their adult lives. Since Yellowjackets season one ended with Lottie seemingly becoming Antler Queen, it seemed that Lottie was the one who held the power among the girls. In her adult life, Lottie also has power and runs a cult-like retreat which seems like a place she truly believes will help heal people. However, the Yellowjackets season 2 finale shows us just how horrifying and unpredictable the wilderness can be, and how it followed Lottie and the women into their adult lives.
Lottie Sets Up A Sacrifice Fate Worse Than The Hunt In Yellowjackets
In the Yellowjackets season 2 finale, the six women draw cards to see who gets sacrificed to the wilderness. Adult Lottie and, to some extent, Van believe this will appease the wilderness. When Tai refuses to draw the card, Lottie tells her “you know what happens if you do” in a threatening tone. Tai ends up taking a card, but it’s clear that refusing to draw a card is worse than the fear of drawing the queen.
Tai quickly picks the card and no one else refuses the card which seems to suggest that not choosing is worse than either running or submitting to sacrifice. Since the Yellowjackets finale depicted the girls’ cabin in the woods burning down, it hints at how the girls will become increasingly more desperate without shelter. It is likely that the girls needed to enforce stricter rules to survive, and one of them was coming up with a truly horrific fate that was worse than the hunt.
Yellowjackets Confirms How Much More Brutal Season 3 Will Be
There still are so many disturbing rules that haven’t been explained in Yellowjackets, and the Yellowjackets finale shows the girls fully accepting the darkness. The girls are still somewhat resistant in season 2, but Yellowjackets season 3 will likely showcase how they really become the cruel killers seen in the pilot’s opening scene. Part of becoming the killers will be the formation of the rules to survive in the wilderness.
Not drawing a card could lead to some sort of torture, but it also must be a torture that somehow would still end up with a victim in the end. It could be psychological torture where the person who refuses the card is vanquished or literally ignored for a distressingly long amount of time. Not drawing a card could also have the girls turn on each other, in a way that is worse than the hunt. After all, Shauna did beat Lottie to a pulp, which means the girls could unleash their rage on each other through physical fights.
With the somber ending of Yellowjackets season 2, there doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of hope left in the women’s lives. While this season showed the women reuniting in their adult lives, Yellowjackets season 2 also took Natalie, one of the main characters. With so many questions left unanswered about the women’s past, present, and future, Yellowjackets season 3 will likely show how the girls become brutal killers.
