Cobra Kai Season 6’s Kreese Story Has A Huge Plot Hole That Only Terry Silver Can Fix

A major detail regarding Kreese’s arc in Cobra Kai season 6 doesn’t quite add up, and could only be explained properly by a Terry Silver appearance. Despite the downfall of Terry Silver’s dojo in the Cobra Kai season 5 finale, it was heavily suspected that his efforts to secure a spot in the Sekai Taikai would still be vital to the show’s final chapter. And as it turns out, Kenny’s victory over Hawk did indeed turn out to be the foundation for Kreese re-entering the picture.

After Cobra Kai season 5, it was unclear whether it still mattered that Kenny beat Hawk and officially got the dojo into the Sekai Taikai tournament. The importance of this moment was confirmed on two separate occasions, with Stingray suggesting that Johnny could use this to retake Cobra Kai and compete in the Sekai Taikai without Daniel’s support. Later, Kreese convinced Kim Sun-Yung to let him use the spot that Kim earned alongside Silver. The circumstances behind this move, however, are complicated in a way that the series didn’t fully address.

Cobra Kai Needs A Terry Silver Appearance To Explain How Kreese’s Students Are In The Sekai Taikai

As it stands, no logical explanation has been offered in-universe as to how Kreese and Kim can lead their students into the Sekai Taikai. It’s true that Kim was operating the dojo with Silver at the time, but that doesn’t prove she has a legitimate claim on the dojo’s name. It was treated in the show as if she could do it without issue, but that ignores the fact that Terry Silver is co-owner of Cobra Kai – or at least, as of season 5, he was. Neither Kreese nor Kim discussed the process behind legally using “Cobra Kai” in the Sekai Taikai.

In season 5, it was said that Silver was willing to give Kim half of Cobra Kai. Whether that was ever in writing or was made official was never specified. But even if it was, the fact remains that Silver should still have some say over who uses the spot that he helped acquire in Cobra Kai’s name, and should be an obstacle to anyone who wants it. However, Cobra Kai can make sense of all this if it’s discovered that Silver deliberately let Kreese’s Cobra Kai team enter the Sekai Taikai.

Why Would Terry Silver Let Kreese Use Cobra Kai’s Name?

Clearly, months passed between the selection of Miyagi-do’s Sekai Taikai team and the group arriving in Barcelona, which gives the show room to reveal a Kreese-Silver reunion. Theoretically, it could be that Silver – despite his resentment toward Kreese – allowed him to get what he wanted in an effort to see his dream of winning the Sekai Taikai fulfilled. If Silver is allowed to participate as a sensei, he’d be able to share in the glory, making it a mutually beneficial agreement.
