How Cobra Kai Season 6 Connects With Karate Kid’s Wider Universe Teased By Co-Creator

The extent to which Cobra Kai season 6 will expand the “Miyagiverse” of Cobra Kai and The Karate Kid is explained by series co-creator Jon Hurwitz.

Cobra Kai’s Jon Hurwitz explains how season 6 will relate to the wider universe of The Karate Kid. Hurwitz is the co-creator of Cobra Kai along with Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg. The series has been running since 2018, and currently has five seasons available to stream on Netflix. The final season, Cobra Kai season 6 is slated for release this year.

Now, Hurwitz comments on how Cobra Kai season 6 will expand the universe of The Karate Kid.

The creator took to social media to respond to a comment wondering if one can “expect more lore of Kreese and Silver in season 6.” In response, Hurwitz said that he and the team are “going so many new places in the Miyagiverse.” Hurwitz went on to say that Cobra Kai’s sixth season “expands the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai universe more than the first 5 seasons combined.” He is “excited for everyone to see the diversity of scenes [they’ve] been building episode to episode.”

How The Karate Kid Universe Has Been Expanding In Recent Years

The Karate Kid has been a phenomenon since the world was first introduced to Daniel and Mr. Miyagi in 1984. Since then, the Karate Kid universe has expanded through sequels, including The Karate Kid Part II and The Karate Kid Part III, The Next Karate Kid, as well as a 2010 remake of The Karate Kid. Cobra Kai, as it stands, is a longer-form chance for The Karate Kid to expand its universe.

In addition to Cobra Kai season 6, the world of The Karate Kid will also see expansion this year through the creation of another Karate Kid film. The exact plot of the movie is still under wraps, but it is said to include 2010’s Jackie Chan and recurring Karate Kid-verse actor Ralph Macchio. The yet-untitled 2024 Karate Kid movie will star American Born Chinese’s Ben Wang in the teen lead role. The Karate Kid movie is directed by Jonathan Entwistle and does not yet have a release date.

With the Karate Kid film releasing this year, Cobra Kai season 6 becomes even more exciting. Macchio reprises Daniel LaRusso in Cobra Kai, so it is possible that elements of the series could work their way into the film. Exactly how much Cobra Kai will expand the universe, and how that will connect to the new movie remains to be seen as both of the works continue their development.
