New details about the in-development 9-1-1 spinoff have been revealed. Since its debut in 2018, 9-1-1 has been a staple of high-stakes procedural drama, following the lives of first responders in Los Angeles. Its success led to the creation of 9-1-1: Lone Star, which brought the franchise to Austin, Texas, under the leadership of Rob Lowe’s Owen Strand. Now, it appears another procedural TV series from the beloved franchise is in the works, helmed by 9-1-1 producers Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani.
According to TV Insider, Raisani addressed the potential 9-1-1 spinoff and its connection to Lone Star, suggesting that crossover appearances aren’t out of the question. The original 9-1-1 series is set to return with the second half of its eighth season on March 6 on ABC. What I can say is all will be told soon, and there’s a man named Ryan Murphy who is the first one who I think will speak on that.
I think that it will have a different tone. It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.
