David Tennant ‘glad’ Good Omens returning after Neil Gaiman allegations

David Tennant has addressed the future of beloved fantasy-comedy series Good Omens following accusations of sexual misconduct against the show’s creator, Neil Gaiman.
It was confirmed in October that the third series of Prime Video’s Good Omens would be scaled back to a 90-minute finale, in the wake of Gaiman exiting the series as showrunner.
Neil Gaiman, who wrote the original Good Omens novel alongside author Terry Pratchett, has been accused of sexual assault and harassment by eight women. He has denied any instance of sexual misconduct and maintained that he has only ever had consensual sexual relationships.
Last night (27 April), Tennant – who leads Good Omens as demon Crowley, alongside Michael Sheen as angel Aziraphale – appeared on new ITV series The Assembly, during which he was grilled on how Gaiman’s departure had “affected” him.

The Assembly sees people with neurodivergence and learning disabilities interview celebrity guests, with no topics off limits. During the programme, one interviewer asked Tennant: “Someone you’ve worked with, a friend, has been cancelled for some quite serious allegations – how has that affected you?”
Tennant was keen to reassure his interviewer that Good Omens was going to be returning, and that he was “glad” to see it survive the controversy surrounding Gaiman.
“We’re doing Good Omens again. We’re going back to do the final, we’re doing a finale. There’s been a slight rejig with the personnel,” Tennant shared.
“But we still get to tell that story, which I think would have been very difficult to leave it on a cliffhanger I think. So I’m glad that’s been worked out.”
However, Tennant didn’t specifically address allegations against Gaiman.
Last week, it was revealed that Gaiman is seeking more than half a million dollars from one of his accusers, Caroline Wallner, accusing her of breaching her NDA by sharing her story with media outlets

Good Omens began with its first season in 2019, with a second season following in 2023. Upon its release, the show was praised for its significant and nuanced LGBTQ+ representation, with both Tennant’s Crowley and Sheen’s Aziraphale depicted as genderqueer and in love with one another.
Filming for the feature-length final episode of the show began earlier this year and has since wrapped, though there is currently no release date.
Following allegations against Gaiman, a number of other projects he had helmed were scaled back or cancelled altogether. Netflix show The Sandman, which released its first season in 2022, has been confirmed to end with season two this year.
Dead Boy Detectives, also on Netflix and set in the Sandman universe, was cancelled after just one season at the end of 2024.

During his appearance on The Assembly, Tennant was also questioned on his relationship with Harry Potter author JK Rowling, as the pair have famously differing views in relation to the transgender community.
“JK Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories, and I wish her no ill will, but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way,” he said.
