Good Omens Season 3 Confirmed, Neil Gaiman Teases Final Storyline

Prime Video renews Good Omens for season 3, with the upcoming episodes set to end the show based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s book.

Good Omens has been renewed for season 3 by Prime Video, with the next batch of episodes confirmed to bring an end to the series. The show is based on a book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, following the friendship between the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley. While season 1 follows the apocalyptic story of the novel, season 2 presents an original sequel exploring the pair’s backstory.

Now, Variety confirms Good Omens season 3 is happening and will end the fantasy series. The show will begin filming in Scotland in the near future. Gaiman, who serves as showrunner, also teased details for the final season, confirming it would follow the original plan he and Pratchett had for a sequel. Check out what the author and series creator had to say below:

I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006. Terry was determined that if we made ‘Good Omens’ for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.

In addition, the Good Omens Prime Video account on Twitter dropped the season 3 announcement. Check it out below:

To celebrate the renewal, the post states “This calls for a round of hot chocolate and sweet treats.”

What To Expect From Good Omens Season 3

Good Omens season 2 ended with Aziraphale accepting Gabriel’s former position in Heaven, asking Crowley to come with him. Frustrated and trying to process his feelings about his friend, the demon refuses, but not before kissing him as a confession of his love. The pair soon separate, Crowley driving off to parts unknown while Metatron informs Aziraphale he’ll be in charge of enacting a new apocalypse – the Second Coming.

Gaiman has previously stated that, if the show were renewed for season 3, it would be based on an unfinished sequel penned by him and Pratchett. This means the upcoming season can deliver on the promise of finishing the pair’s story, granting them a fitting ending as they try to thwart the end of the world a second time. The final batch of episodes will likely see their relationship develop further as they continue to wrestle with their feelings.

Since the duo will be responsible for preventing the apocalypse once again, there’s no way of knowing what their final fate will be. While they were able to trick Heaven and Hell into living peaceful lives on Earth at the end of season 1, the attention they received in season 2 means they may need to find some other way to live together safely. With plenty of wild events sure to come, Good Omens season 3 will likely provide a satisfying finale to the fantasy series.
