The Wheel of Time fans devastated after Prime Video decision

Fans of the beloved fantasy drama are ‘devastated’ the show has been cancelled after just three seasons

Prime Video has announced that a beloved fantasy drama has been axed after just three seasons.

The streaming service confirmed on Friday (May 23) that the popular adaptation of an iconic fantasy saga will not be renewed for a fourth series.

The announcement comes just over a month after its season finale in April, where fans branded the show’s third series “the best season they ever had”, the Mirror reports.

The series, based on the books by Robert Jordan, was the streaming platform’s most-watched premiere in 2021.

However, the series’ viewership has dwindled since its release, and the reasons behind the cancellation are said to be financial, Deadline reports.

Hundreds of viewers of the series, which stars Rosamund Pike, have shared their frustrations on social media.

Fans say series three was a huge improvement over previous seasons.

One viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Wdym Prime cancelled The Wheel of Time after the best season they ever had?

“Rosamund Pike literally spent weeks in a desert for nothing?”

Another added: “I’m devastated and so sad for The Wheel of Time fandom. Awful decision by Prime Video, Amazon etc.

“Season 3 is the best rated everywhere I’ve seen. Wanted to go back to season 1 soon even.

“The devoted fans I follow here, I enjoy them so much, then this happens. I’m so disappointed.”

James Dyer of Empire echoed the sentiment. He wrote: “No, I’m sorry @primevideouk, this WILL NOT STAND!

“Season 3 was f***ing fantastic and if you can afford to pour a billion dollars into [The Lord of the Rings] The Rings Of Power, you can throw some cash at this glorious show!”

Viewers aired similar frustrations on Reddit, where one fan said: “I’m genuinely surprised by this… Seems like they had a lot of positive momentum after Season 3 and people were happy with the direction the show was going.”

Another added: “I am so sad. I was really loving the last season.”

However, others were less surprised by the announcement, claiming the drama didn’t match the success of fantasy giants.

“They wanted the next Game of Thrones,” one viewer commented.

“It just wasn’t the same kind of cultural phenomenon, no matter how good the last season was in comparison. This was bound to happen, they put a lot of money into it.”
