Chicago P.D. Just Revealed Why Ruzek Will Be Missing from Season 13

Find out why the Intelligence Unit mainstay, played by Patrick John Flueger, will be M.I.A. on Season 13 of Chicago P.D.
Duty has called for Chicago P.D. fan favorite Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) as family matters pull him away from the Intelligence Unit action on Season 13 of the NBC nail-biter.
As a One Chicago O.G., Chihards have been rooting for Ruzek since Season 1 of Chicago P.D., enjoying his many chapters in and out of the Intelligence Unit. From his swoon-worthy romance with his wife, Detective Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), to his zeal for the beat, Ruzek has become a reliable face around the precinct. So, of course, viewers are quick to note his absence if he’s missing from the latest case.
As it turns out, there have been some concerning developments with Ruzek’s father, “Disco Bob” Ruzek, who has been navigating a battle with Alzheimer’s. Read on to learn more.
Where is Adam Ruzek on Chicago P.D. Season 13?
During Chicago P.D. Season 13’s “Heroes,” Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) found herself scrambling to get assignments out to officers, soon spotting Intelligence Unit mainstay Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) during the chaos. Confused about the attendance numbers, Platt asked Atwater where Ruzek was.
“Disco Bob’s not doing too well, so he needs a little time,” Atwater explained before heading toward the Intelligence Unit for his latest case.
Atwater’s explanation echoes the reason Ruzek was M.I.A. during last week’s Chicago P.D. episode, when Burgess informed Voight that he wouldn’t be able to help with a case due to an “emergency with Bob,” pulling him away from the precinct.
Ruzek has been helping out with his father’s care since Season 12 of Chicago P.D., when Bob first revealed his Alzheimer’s diagnosis to his son. Ruzek helped Bob select a solid long-term care facility, paying visits to his dad whenever possible. It sounds like Bob’s condition has taken a turn, so Ruzek will be missing in action until his father is feeling stable.
P.D. showrunner teases action ahead on Season 13
Amid Ruzek’s absence, P.D. fans are in no shortage of blood-pumping twists and turns as Season 13 heats up. From new officers settling in at the squadroom to nail-biting blackmailing schemes, there’s been so much action going down in the Windy City unit, and Chihards can’t wait to see what happens next.
P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan teased what’s to come in the back half of Season 13, promising fans plenty of “deep dives” into each member of the cherished Intelligence Unit.
“It’s a deep dive into everybody…” Sigan explained. “We’ve got a great Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) episode where he’s sort of being lifted out of this dark state that he’s been in,” Sigan continued, revealing that a previous storyline from Episode 6’s “Send Me” will come back up. “[Viewers] see him really devoted to solving this cold case that has no leads in sight and how he deals with that.”
Meanwhile, Voight is still in the throes of a blackmail scheme run by a new superior, Internal Affairs District Commander Devlin. After forcing Devlin’s hand in reinstating the Intelligence Unit, Devlin has taken it upon himself to threaten Voight with releasing a smear campaign against his father, the late Richard Voight, who died in the line of duty.
After falsely painting Voight’s father as an abusive man, Devlin has threatened to go public with the lie if Voight doesn’t turn in his badge. Needless to say, Voight’s not handing over his badge anytime soon, and Chihards can’t wait to see what happens next.
