Fans might not have gotten to see an Upstead reunion before Tracy Spiridakos exited Chicago PD in season 11, but the reunion we’ve been longing for is finally coming in an epic manner!
NBC stunned fans when it revealed that the 2026 One Chicago crossover event would be bringing back both Upton and Halstead, two characters we haven’t gotten to see share the screen together since 2022. It was the most unexpected moment, as there had been absolutely no hint that the pair would be returning. It’s not as though the show had subtly referenced them in a moment foreshadowing their returns, and there were somehow no leaked photos.
Thankfully, now that the cat is out of the bag, the Chicago PD cast has wasted no time in gifting fans with behind-the-scenes photos from the crossover event!
Our first tease came from Marina Squerciati, who shared a behind-the-scenes group shot featuring herself, Spiridakos, and fellow Chicago PD stars Benjamin Levy Aguilar and Arienne Mandi. “Yes, we do smile (just not on the show, but we are capable),” Squerciati playfully joked when sharing the photo.

Then came our official first photos of Upstead back together, courtesy of Spiridakos! The first photo posted to Instagram featured Spiridakos and Soffer back together on the set, smiling ear-to-ear in the front seat of a vehicle. We get to see Soffer donning a police vest, while Spiridakos is rocking an FBI jacket and vest as a nod to Upton’s new gig since leaving the Intelligence Unit to start fresh.

This photo was followed up by a second photo that seems to have been taken directly after the first in which Squerciati joins the pair in the police vehicle. “Found you,” Spiridakos teased as we see Squerciati crash the Upstead reunion and join the fun

It’s incredible to see Soffer and Spiridakos back on set, and fans are eager to see the pair reunited. One of the fans’ biggest complaints about how the show wrote out the two characters was the manner in which they broke the couple up.
Upstead was such a central part of the show and had such an amazing journey over the years. Sadly, when Soffer left the show, the writers ultimately made the decision to have Halstead ghost Upton, leaving her heartbroken and ultimately leading to their divorce. Now, it seems like there might be hope for the pair to get a happier ending courtesy of the reunion coming in the crossover.
The trailer description teased that sparks will fly between Halstead and Upton when they’re thrown back together during the citywide emergency. Hopefully, those sparks will lead to the pair deciding to give their relationship another chance, even if that second chance is only hinted at by the end of the crossover.
