Few Wednesday fans genuinely enjoyed the entire romantic aspect of Netflix’s gothic hit. Jenna Ortega’s performance? Brilliant. The intricacies and thrill of Nevermore Academy? Perfect. The viral dance? It is what it is.
But Wednesday Addams finding herself in a love triangle between two questionable male characters and even choosing one of them? Absolutely no way. This is a torture none of us signed up for.
As we know, Wednesday did end up kissing Tyler, who later turned out to be the very Hide monster on a killing spree. But before revealing his monstrous alter-ego, Tyler was notorious for, well, nothing, except for being a normie barista and looking like he is an innocent puppy.
However, no matter how pathetic the entire love triangle situation looked, the most popular fan demand (which is get rid of the romantic aspect in season 2) holds no water.
Why Can’t Wednesday Just Ditch Romance in Season 2?
The thing is, we will have to deal with the romantic arc between Wednesday and Tyler whether we like it or not. The first season just threw the romance in our faces, and if season 2 suddenly pretends that nothing happened, it will only make the already anticlimactic romance even worse.
Even though we are left to think that Tyler has been lying to Wednesday about his feelings for her… has he really? For his character arc, it is now a must to at least explain it. The first season’s cliffhanger has given enough room for any outcome — we might as well see Tyler as a manipulated and lost kid who may not be as evil as we think he is.
How Can Wednesday Resolve The Love Triangle?
One of the worst ways to try and develop this arc would be to send Wednesday into “I can fix him” mode. Let’s be honest, we’ve seen plenty of those stories; but with Jenna Ortega and her notorious lack of love for Wednesday’s romance as executive producer for season 2, it’s fortunately unlikely.
Another thing would be to let Tyler deal with his feelings (or clarify he was faking them), and not push Wednesday into Xavier’s arms instead. A big part of the fandom advocates for Wednesday to explore romantic possibilities with her roommate Enid Sinclair, who currently seems to be taken by Ajax. However, the chemistry between Enid and Wednesday is just right if the creators do want to explore it (in a non-cringeworthy way, thank you very much).
However, the majority of fans believe that Wednesday should just be given a break in terms of romantic adventures. After resolving all the issues season 1 established, Ms. Addams could just dedicate herself to what she truly loves — writing and being a detective.
What to Expect From Season 2?
Expectations are pretty high, given that Wednesday instantly became a huge hit on the platform. Romance aside, there are tons of questions that haunt Wednesday fans. Who is her stalker? What’s going to happen to Tyler? Is Gwendoline Christie ‘s Wheems really dead?
There are plenty of arcs for Wednesday season 2 to explore aside from the romantic one; so fans have their fingers crossed the show will not let them down. The premiere date for the second chapter of Netflix’s eerie hit has not been scheduled yet.
