“Barely Even In English”: Good Omens Season 3’s “Leaked” Scripts Debunked By Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman debunks alleged “leaked” scripts for Good Omens season 3, urging internet users to “think and breathe” before jumping to conclusions.

Neil Gaiman confirms that alleged leaked scripts of Good Omens season 3 circulating online are fake. Gaiman is the creator of Good Omens, having written the original novel in 1990 with Terry Pratchett. He now serves as the primary writer on the TV show adaptation. It premiered in 2019 and follows the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they form an unlikely alliance to prevent Armageddon. Good Omens is still awaiting a season 3 renewal, but some internet users began claiming that the script for the new episodes had already leaked.

Gaiman took to his personal Tumblr to debunk the alleged leaked Good Omens season 3 scripts. Users used the platform to alert him about the scripts and ask for confirmation of their validity. Apparently, the scripts were posted briefly to Reddit and then quickly deleted. However, Gaiman assured users that the scripts were not legitimate. He also took the time to urge viewers to practice more diligence when it comes to navigating these rumors. Check out his two statements below:

Sighs.

Googles.

Notices that the “script leak” ends in /j.

Breathe, people. Think and breathe.

Does anyone actually think this reads like an actual Good Omens script I wrote? It’s barely even in English.

Is Good Omens Season 3 In The Works?

Part of the reason why rumors are gaining momentum may be due to excitement and anxiety over Good Omens season 3. Season 2 premiered in July, meaning viewers have waited several months to learn whether the show will return for another outing. Initially, Good Omens was conceived as a miniseries, but it was so well received that Gaiman created a new story for the show to tackle, since season 1 covered the novel’s contents. However, there is a story already in place for Good Omens season 3.

Gaiman revealed that he and Pratchett once planned to write a sequel to the original book. While Gaiman didn’t feel he could move smoothly from Good Omens season 1 to the planned sequel, he does plan to base season 3 on it. Gaiman also confirmed in late September that he would soon begin working on Good Omens season 3 scripts due to the WGA strike ending. Per usual, he is being secretive about the story and has assured viewers he won’t share any details. Still, it’s encouraging that season 3 has a story, and the scripts may already be underway.

Most recently, Good Omens received a positive update with reports that a season 3 renewal is very likely, although co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon will not be returning. Tennant and Sheen are already set to return if season 3 is greenlit, so it seems Prime Video is getting things in place to renew the series. It is still awaiting that final confirmation, though. However, Good Omens season 3 is looking good, especially since its story will not be what was written in those fake leaked scripts.
