Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul Fans Named Most Unlikely Character as Show’s Best

When fans think of the show, they think of the slippin’ Jimmy, the charismatic Lalo, the cold but kind Nacho, or the cruel and pedantic Gus Fring.

But no one could have imagined that some viewers would choose this ex-cop as their favorite character…

Portrayed by actor Jonathan Banks, Mike Ehrmantraut is introduced as a former Philadelphia police officer turned private investigator and enforcer for a drug lord.

Initially, Mike’s role in Breaking Bad is that of a supporting character, acting as a fixer and protector for the show’s protagonist, Walter White.

In Better Call Saul, Mike is further developed. Here, the audience is given a glimpse into his past, witnessing the events that shaped him into the man he becomes in Breaking Bad.

Ehrmantraut’s tragic backstory provides insight into his motivations and the demons he struggles with, adding depth and complexity to his character.

While the ex-cop is always cold to others in Breaking Bad, the prequel shows viewers the rest of Mike’s family: Stacy, his son’s wife, and daughter Kaylee, the survivor of their marriage.

The series reveals the character’s inner world, showing his other side and his relationship with his loved ones.

Mike is constantly involved with his granddaughter, teaching her useful things and moving the family out of a dangerous neighborhood.

He attends a support group with Stacy and tries in every way to help her get over the death of her husband. Although the loss of his son has not been easy for him either.

And while Gus’s hit man in Breaking Bad always evoked a sense of danger, Better Call Saul reveals the former cop as a sensitive man who has simply lost a lot. This makes the fate of Mike, who will die at the hands of Walter White, all the more devastating.

Despite being a fan favorite, Mr. Ehrmantraut is not a typical lead character. He is not flashy, charming, or the center of attention.

Instead, he is the quiet force that drives the story forward. Mike’s presence is subtle yet powerful, leaving a lasting impact on the viewer.

Some fans feel that Mike is not the main character, but a supporting one, although they don’t deny his contribution to the story.

In fact, viewers point out that it was the former cop who spawned the best memes of the Breaking Bad universe, as the show is now unimaginable without the famous “Kid named Finger” and “Waltuh.”
