Callie Can No Longer Be Considered Yellowjackets’ Worst Character

Sarah Desjardins’ Callie Sadecki has gone through quite the transformation in Yellowjackets season 2, losing her spot as worst character on the show.

Out of the entire cast of Yellowjackets, one character has undergone such a stunning transformation that she can no longer be considered the worst character on the show: Callie Sadecki. Played by Canadian actress Sarah Desjardins, Callie is the teenage daughter of Yellowjackets survivor Shauna and her ex-best friend’s boyfriend, Jeff Sadecki. When Callie was first introduced in Yellowjackets season 1, she was the embodiment of a stereotypical teenager: embarrassed by her parents, flagrantly disrespectful, and incredibly disdainful of Shauna’s attempts at closeness. Callie’s cookie-cutter teenage tendencies made her inherently unlikeable, and it got increasingly worse when she found out her mother was having an affair.

Despite believing that her father Jeff wasn’t doing inventory late at night, she immediately demonized her mother for having an affair with Adam Martin. Obviously, cheating is never right, but Callie took it to heart and effectively deified her father (despite Jeff being a blackmailer) and made it her personal goal to disparage her mother to anyone who would listen. Unfortunately in Yellowjackets, Detective Matt Saracusa became a shoulder for Callie to cry on and effectively used her to spill Shauna’s secrets. Between doing whatever she wanted whenever she wanted and putting her family in danger, Callie easily became the least-liked character on the show until everything changed.

Callie Is Finally On Shauna’s Side In Yellowjackets Season 2

In Yellowjackets season 2, Callie has effectively switched sides and is no longer at odds with Shauna. What’s more, she’s actually coming up with her own schemes to keep her family safe. Things changed for the better between Shauna and Callie when the former decided to tell the latter the whole truth about Adam Martin’s death in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 4. This may not have been a stellar parental decision, but it was necessary for Callie to begin trusting Shauna and make attempts at helping their family, rather than hurting it.

In Yellowjackets season 2, episode 5, Callie made her first rescue attempt by telling Detective Saracusa that Shauna had been sleeping with Randy the whole time. This led to a plan that very well could have worked in the Sadecki family’s favor, had Randy not fumbled the play. Callie once again made a bold choice to save Shauna’s skin when the two were brought in for questioning and Callie told Kevyn that Detective Saracusa had taken her virginity. Callie lately has proven that she and Shauna are cut from the same cloth, and her valiant attempts to keep her family safe wouldn’t be believed based on her season 1 characterization.

Why Callie’s Change Is Good News For Sarah Desjardins In Yellowjackets Season 2

Callie’s sudden change of heart is good news for actress Sarah Desjardins, as her character can now go appropriately from side threat to major player in the Yellowjackets cast. Callie has gotten a lot more involved in the plot of Yellowjackets season 2. In season 1, Callie was mainly a teen caricature, meant to be adult Shauna’s foil and proof that being stuck in the wilderness for 19 months still isn’t enough hardship to prepare one for parenting a teenage daughter. Season 2 has provided Callie with a much-needed arc, and in turn, more screen time for Sarah Desjardins to display her talent.

Given where Yellowjackets season 2 seems to be heading, Callie will be a continued positive presence on the series, and her character has afforded Desjardins the opportunity to display her ability to turn someone who is wholly unlikeable into a person that audiences root for. Desjardins and Yellowjackets have effectively proved that Callie’s character is not as one-note as she was previously thought to be, a testament to both the writers for the series and Desjardin’s talent as an actress. Desjardins’ characterization of Callie is sure to open more doors for the star, and her presence on Yellowjackets is one that audiences can finally look forward to.
