Cobra Kai Season 6 Starts Filming, Producer Teases More Karate Kid Character Returns

Cobra Kai gets an exciting update with more characters from the Karate Kid movie series teased to return.

Big things are happening in the world of Cobra Kai, as the anticipated final season is getting its cameras rolling.

On the social media platform X, series co-creator Jon Hurwitz shared an update on the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai. Posting from the set, Hurwitz revealed how filming has officially started on the final episodes of the Karate Kid sequel series. He also teased the show’s plans to bring back other familiar faces from the Karate Kid films, possibly even Hilary Swank from The Next Karate Kid, though he couldn’t confirm any specific returns at this time.

“Amazing being back on set with the Cobra Kai family this week,” Hurwitz said in an X post. “So many hugs and laughs. It immediately felt like we were filming future classic scenes from the show.”

One fan shared an image from The Next Karate Kid of Swank with Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi and a hawk, using the picture to ask about other potential returns of Karate Kid franchise stars. Hurwitz responded, “I can’t promise the hawk or any Oscar winners in this photo — I will never give potential spoilers — but rest assured we’ll have at least one character from the Karate Kid films return that hasn’t yet appeared on Cobra Kai.”

The Karate Kid Story Will Continue With a New Movie

While this will be the last season of Cobra Kai, the good news for fans of the franchise is that there will be more to come from the Karate Kid world. It was previously announced that Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan will unite to co-star in a new Karate Kid movie, officially uniting the original trilogy with the 2010 reboot. A casting call was also put out for a young Chinese actor to play the newest incarnation of the titular character. While the Cobra Kai creators are not involved with the new film, Hurwitz made it clear that he’s throwing his support behind the new movie.

As Hurwitz told a fan on X who asked about his involvement with the film, “We are not officially involved in the new Karate Kid movie in any way, but we are friends of the court who hope it kicks ass! Love that guy Ralph Macchio!”
