Damon Salvatore Did Not Deserve His Happy Ending in Vampire Diaries

The only person he should’ve ended up with is a therapist.

Even though The Vampire Diaries ended 6 years ago, fans continue to re-watch the show, notice the new little details, and come up with amazing theories.

No matter how many plot holes they find or how many illogical writing decisions they have to relive, The Vampire Diaries continues to be discussed on social media.

And one of the hottest topics, as always, is Damon Salvatore.

No matter how many viewers were extremely devoted to Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert, no matter how many people rooted for them and waited patiently to see them together at the end, there are still some who don’t think it should have happened.

It’s understandable from the showrunners’ perspective: #Delena drew a lot of viewers and kept the ratings up, even apart from each other.

With such a powerful fandom, it would be a huge mistake not to give them what they deserve in the end. But for everyone else, the decision just felt rushed.

Even though Damon had quite the redemption arc in seasons 6 through 8, not all viewers were completely sold on it. It felt like he did not take the time to heal properly before jumping back into Elena’s life.

He could have easily stayed alone for a while and worked on himself to become the kind of person his brother deserved to be around, and that would have given his character a lot more development than yet another romantic spin.

Even if Damon had to end up with someone in the finale, not all fans agree that it should have been Elena.

Many think that they’d much rather see the chaotic energy he shared with Katherine, or something new, more meaningful, and possibly more understanding with Bonnie.

Staying in this relationship would not do any good for either ego-centric Damon, or Elena, whose life has already been damaged enough by him.

There is no way to rewrite the canon, so unfortunately all these discussions will continue to end up on the internet without further notice.

However, you can always give The Vampire Diaries another run by streaming it on MAX.
