Deleted One Chicago crossover photos hint at alternate ending to ‘Reckoning’ event

It seems there might have been a key scene left on the cutting room floor of the 2026 One Chicago crossover event! Warning: Spoilers from the 2026 One Chicago crossover below!
Across the three-hour crossover, we saw the Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD teams coming together to stop an attack that threatened to kill several innocent individuals. We’d come to learn that the man behind the attack once crossed paths with Voight, Pascal, and Goodin over a decade ago, as he was a victim of the Heart of Chicago Fire.
Years ago, Voight was working on a case connected to a meth lab in the apartment building where the suspect, Thomas Marr, lived with his family. Rather than shutting the lab down, Voight was waiting to get all the key players and asked Cranston and Pascal to hold off on the routine fire inspection that was due to take place in order to give him two days to get what he needed for the case. Sadly, that time proved crucial, as 24 hours later, the building burned down, killing 22 people, including Thomas’ parents and sister. The night of the fire, it was Voight who pulled a young Thomas from the fire and got him to safety. Also on the scene that night was a young nurse, Goodwin, who helped get Thomas to the ambulance to be treated for his burns.
As time passed, Thomas began looking into the circumstances of the fire and eventually discovered the truth regarding the CFD and CPD’s negligence. That fueled the anger he had over what happened, and the anniversary of the fire led him to plan an attack to target those he held responsible for the deaths of his family members. Thankfully, Voight and the team were able to stop Thomas from enacting the second attack, but in doing so, Thomas was shot in the exchange and died at the scene.
In the closing moments of the crossover, we watched as Voight printed out a photo of young Thomas and placed it in a folder with some additional paperwork. Labeling the folder as Victim 23, Voight placed the folder in an evidence box for the victims of the Heart of Chicago Fire as the episode faded to black.
The ending was a fitting close to the episode; however, it appears an alternate ending was filmed that would have been an even more powerful closing moment.
In a newly released photo (below), we see Goodwin, Voight, and Pascal gathered together at night in a cemetery looking down at a grave. It’s unclear whose grave the trio was visiting, but it seems likely that it was either Cranston’s grave or perhaps the grave of Thomas’ family and that the trio gathered together after the day had been saved to reflect on the events of the past and from the present day.

It is interesting that NBC chose to release the photo from the scene, as we’d never have known about the cut sequence otherwise. It’s also interesting that the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
Given how central the trio was to Thomas’ story, it’s a shame the scene was cut from the episode, as it’d have made sense for Pascal, Goodwin, and Voight to gather to reflect and acknowledge the loss, be it honoring Cranston or visiting the grave of Thomas’ family. It also would have been nice to see them coming together to have a proper moment to reflect as a group. This scene would also have helped to make Goodwin’s presence in the flashback a little more impactful.
I’m not going to lie, it felt very weird to see Goodwin on the scene in the flashback helping to tend to young Thomas when he was pulled out of the fire by Voight. While Pascal and Voight were tied to the case in a more direct manner, Goodwin’s presence felt a bit out of place. However, this scene makes sense if the original plan was to then tie things together by having Pascal, Goodwin, and Voight come together to reflect on the fire and their shared experience in a closing scene at the graveyard. That would have been a fitting way to really tie the crossover up, and we would have loved to see the crossover end with three pillars of the One Chicago franchise coming together for a final scene.
