The Frasier

Frasier Renewed for Season 2

Frasier hasn’t left the building just yet: Paramount+ has renewed the sitcom revival starring Kelsey Grammer for a second season, TVLine has learned.

“Kelsey made a triumphant return as one of the most iconic and beloved characters on television,” Paramount+’s executive vice president of programming Jeff Grossman said in a statement. “The new series introduced Frasier to a whole new generation while reminding fans of Kelsey’s truly timeless portrayal of Dr. Crane. We’re so excited to see what the creative team and superb cast serve up for Season 2.”

Grammer added a statement of his own: “Frasier is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store!”

Grammer reprises his role as psychiatrist Frasier Crane, a role he originated on Cheers and then continued on his own spinoff Frasier, which ran for 11 seasons on NBC. In the revival, Frasier has moved back to Boston to reconnect with his son Freddy, taking a job teaching at Harvard along the way. Jack Cutmore-Scott co-stars as Freddy, with Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s pal and fellow professor Alan, Toks Olagundoye as department head Olivia, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s friend and roommate Eve and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David.

Season 1 debuted on Paramount+ in October, with guest appearances from Bebe Neuwirth as Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith and Peri Gilpin as Frasier’s former radio colleague Roz. The 10-episode freshman season wrapped up in December. (Check out our interview with Grammer about the season finale here.)

No plot details for Season 2 have been released yet, but Grammer has already voiced his support for bringing back Shelley Long as Frasier’s former Cheers flame Diane Chambers: “I would like to see Diane come back… for Frasier to be able to put something to bed, to end up with a nice thing between them.”
