Gen V Producers Address The Boys Spinoff’s Potential Season 2 Renewal

As the writers’ room for Gen V Season 2 opens, showrunner Michele Fazekas addresses a potential Season 2 renewal.

Gen V executive producers Michele Fazekas and Eric Kripke are “hopeful” about the potential renewal of the latest The Boys spinoff.

Following its series debut last Sept. 29, Gen V still holds a Certified Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% Tomatometer rating, based on 79 reviews. Because of the positive response that the college-set spinoff has been receiving, its potential Season 2 renewal wouldn’t come as a surprise to viewers, especially when Amazon Studios previously expressed their intent to expand The Boys franchise. Speaking with The Wrap, Fazekas and Kripke confirmed that despite not yet receiving an official Season 2 order for Gen V, they have already opened the writers’ room for the next installment. “We do not have an official season to order yet,” Fazekas said. “We’ve gotten the writers together to talk about what’s possible. So we’re hopeful.”

According to Kripke, Amazon Studios is still observing how well Gen V will perform with the audiences once most of its episodes have already dropped. “We need to see how the show performs, and we need to see if people are watching it, and if Amazon’s happy,” he said. “I mean, look, the fact that Amazon has paid for Michele to have a second season [writers] room is a good sign. So, you know, fingers crossed.”

In addition, Amazon Studios head Vernon Sanders also addressed the R-rated superhero comedy’s future, revealing that they’re “thrilled” with the show’s initial reception. “We wanted to get the writers started right away figuring out what Season 2 looks like,” Sanders said. “We wanted to take a moment and make sure the show had the reception that we were looking for. And in the first five days, we’ve been seeing incredible results, within the U.S., internationally. It’s 2023, and it’s in our top three most acquisitive shows. The show has just sort of taken off online, so we’re thrilled with what we’re seeing so far.”

The Gen V Cast Receives Advice From The Boys Alum

Gen V takes place at Vought’s very own Godolkin University, where young competitive Supes compete to become the next big thing. The series is being led by a talented cast consisting of: Jaz Sinclair as blood bender Marie Moreau, who dreams of becoming first Black woman to join The Seven; Chance Perdomo as metal bender Andre Anderson, who’s the son of a famous Supe; Lizze Broadway as Emma, a social media influencer who has Ant-Man-like abilities; Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, who has the ability to control people with her touch; London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, a gender-shifter who has different powers depending on their current form; and Asa Germann as Sam Riordan who has super-strength.

In a previous interview, Sinclair revealed that The Boys star Jack Quaid welcomed the Gen V cast with valuable words of wisdom about the importance of developing a camaraderie among themselves. “He was just like, ‘Stay a family, stay a team. This is where it’s at. If you guys have each other, you’ll get through this. So, don’t lose sight of that,'” Sinclair said. “This is the real family, you know, talking about the cast and, like, really being unified. And I value that because you can feel that when they’re together.”
