How Jason’s Escape In The Rookie Season 6 Ending Raises Problems For Nolan & Bailey Teased By Showrunner
The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley has teased how Jason’s escape from prison in the season 6 finale is going to raise problems for Nolan and Bailey when season 7 arrives. The Rookie season 6 finale saw Monica release Oscar from prison, later bringing Bailey’s ex-husband Jason into her plans in the process. While she frees him from prison, his status in the series remains unknown, but it sets the stage for his return in the future.
Speaking with TV Insider, Hawley explained how Jason’s prison escape at the end of The Rookie season 6 is going to be a problem for Nolan and Bailey going into season 7. The showrunner revealed Jason is the biggest threat at the moment, with his intentions being very direct and threatening to major characters. Check out what Hawley had to say below:
The stakes are there. Obviously there’s a danger lurking. On the completely practical side, Jenna [Dewan]’s about to have a baby in real life, so we do have to navigate that at the beginning of the season. So I think we’ll have to slow roll slightly and that, but yeah, look, especially in the adoption story, they do live dangerous lives. She’s going to have an ex-husband slash stalker out there. How does that impact them on a personal level will be interesting to explore.
Without spoiling too much, because I don’t know everything at this point, I think Jason’s probably the most immediate problem. I can’t necessarily comment on Oscar and Monica yet, but I think obviously Jason is the one with the most specific, the most harmful intent towards anybody on our show at the moment.
What Jason’s Return Means For The Rookie Season 7
Season 6 of the police procedural saw Nolan and Bailey get married after years of dating, the pair now prepared to build a life together in Los Angeles. However, Monica’s actions now threaten the stability of their new marriage, as Jason will no doubt be looking for revenge against his ex-wife. Even though Jenna Dewan’s pregnancy will keep her from portraying her character for the first few episodes of The Rookie season 7, her ex-husband will still be a primary antagonist in the story to come.
Given the personal stake he has in going after Bailey and Nolan, it’s unclear if the new villain is going to go along with whatever plans Monica has for him. While the show has yet to dig deeper into his motivations, Hawley’s statement indicates just how dangerous he’s going to be for the new couple’s life together. It appears he may start stalking his ex-wife, laying in wait for the perfect chance to strike. This makes him a scarily dangerous villain, as it’s unclear how patient he’s willing to be, and how much he’s willing to lose for revenge.
Jason might also try and get back together with Bailey, convinced that he can win her back now that she’s out of prison. Since The Rookie season 7 has a long wait – the series won’t be coming back until early 2025 – it will be quite some time until his true motivations are in the spotlight. However, given the level of danger Hawley is teasing, it seems his coming back will be a very terrifying development for Nolan and his new wife.
