How the Ahsoka finale set up The Mandalorian Season 4
Disney hasn’t announced Ahsoka Season 2 yet but the finale of the first season may have set the stage for The Mandalorian Season 4. The Mandalorian was supposed to start filming in November of this year, but the SAG-AFTRA strike has been delayed until further notice. Once filming resumes, there’s reason to believe that Mando Season 4 will be among the first Star Wars series to go into production. Jon Favreau confirmed that he’s done writing the 4th season, so it’s time to guess how the Ahsoka finale ties into The Mandalorian Season 4.
Ahsoka is set after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, which means that The Mandalorian Season 4 is likely set after the events of Ahsoka. This makes it very possible that Thrawn will play a significant role in Season 4. When Season 4 begins, many in the galaxy may already be aware that Thrawn has returned, or he’ll announce his return to the New Republic in style, leading to lots of chaos that Din Djarin and Grogu may be involved in. Din’s domestic bliss is not likely to last since the galaxy is sure to fall into serious peril the minute Thrawn returns, calling on its greatest warriors, including Mando, to fight.
Since Din Djarin will be hunting for Imperial Remnants and working closely with Carson Teva, his involvement in the fight is almost guaranteed. But things might become more complicated for the New Republic and Din Djarin once Thrawn arrives. The Empire will be a threatening presence again, and the New Republic, which has been ignoring any signs of Imperial activity, will have its hands full. In these circumstances, people such as Carson Teva may try to bring allies of the Republic together, which might be how Din meets members of the Ghost Crew, including Ezra Bridger, Hera Syndulla, and Zeb Orrelios.
This leads us to the possibility that The Mandalorian Season 4 will have several necessary cameos. As we get closer to Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse film, characters from every series set in this era will need to get to know each other. As Ahsoka and Sabine have been left behind on Peridea, the Ghost Crew has gained a member in Ezra and lost two in the process. This makes Din working together with them an even higher possibility, and it helps that his son is a Force-sensitive Mandalorian apprentice. Grogu can do his part to make up for Ahsoka and Sabine’s absence with some help from his father. Let’s not count out the possibility of an appearance by Grogu’s Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker, who will probably find out very soon that the Empire is back.
With all these ingredients mixed together, The Mandalorian Season 4 may be the show’s best season. Din Djarin will have to step up again to protect his little Clan of Two, and the show will probably return to its Season 1 format of weekly adventures, galaxy hopping, and Season 2’s exciting cameos.
