“I’ve Evolved”: ‘Chicago P.D.’ Star, 35, Reacts to Their Shocking Exit

After one short season, Intelligence’s latest addition is leaving the unit in the upcoming season of Chicago P.D.Toya Turner, who played the newest recruit Kiana Cook, is leaving the show, as previously revealed. Her departure is surprising, given the character’s brief tenure. Cook was brought in to fill the space left by Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) departures in previous seasons. It appears that the show will need to find someone else to fill in that space once again. Chicago P.D. was Turner’s first series regular role on a network drama. The actress took to her social media pages to bid farewell to fans and express her gratitude for the time spent on the Chicago P.D. set. She shared an image carousel in an Instagram post, highlighting some moments from the experience. The post’s caption reads:

My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close. This show challenged me, sharpened me, and revealed what I’m made of. I’ve evolved through this experience, both as an artist and in my craft, and I’m walking away with depth, clarity, and momentum for whatever comes next.

To the cast and crew: thank you for the warmth, the laughter, and the generosity you brought every day. It was an honor to share the screen and the set with such talent.

To the ChiHards: thank you for welcoming me, rooting for me, and showing Kiana love. And to everyone who believes in me: your support means the world. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead.

Turner’s departure came as a surprise, given the show’s crucial need for her addition. There were no indications that the character would leave, as viewers had only just become accustomed to her and were learning more about her. The reason for the exit has not been revealed. However, it is being reported that casting for a replacement is being done. There are no other exits or additions that have been announced, even as preparation for Season 13 production start continue. Details about what the season will handle have not been revealed yet, but showrunner Gwen Sigan has said it will deal with the fallout from Reid’s campaign against the team. She told TV Insider:

“We had a few storylines we couldn’t get to this season that I still think are out there and could be interesting next year. I think Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) is in this really interesting spot where nothing has been buttoned up for him. He’s in this very emotional, vulnerable spot, which would be really interesting to keep writing. I think Voight (Jason Beghe) obviously, who knows what this guy’s going to get up to next year. I mean, he’s definitely in an interesting place and to see how the team is going to react to that because the team has different relationships with him now than years ago. So how is that going to all work out next season? So there’s a lot of, I think, interesting places we could go and we’ll just hopefully make it fresh and different.”
