Netflix’s Wednesday beats Beyond Paradise as Best New Drama at NTAs
The Addams Family spin-off got the gong.
Wednesday has taken home a trophy from the 28th National Television Awards.
The hit Netflix show had stiff competition in the Best New Drama category but managed to beat its competitors.
Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise, police drama Blue Lights, and Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story were all nominated in the category but failed to take the win.

Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, much of the cast of Wednesday wasn’t in attendance at the NTAs on Tuesday night (September 5).
As a result, British actor Moosa Mostafa, who plays Eugene Ottinger in the hit Netflix drama, accepted the award on behalf of his colleagues.
“I’m the evident representative of Wednesday,” he explained. “A lot of my cast can’t be here today due to the strikes in America, but I’m holding it down for everyone in the UK.”
Thanking the fans of Wednesday first, Mostafa described the support the show has received as “nuts” and “unbelievable”. He then added: “I’ve got to thank Netflix, MGM, all of the producers, all the cast and Tim Burton — what an incredible director.”
Mostafa went on to detail how he’s dealt with his newfound fame since Wednesday’s success.
“A crazy experience,” he remarked. “Honestly, I’m going back to school in two days so the fact that I’m here is kind of nuts!”
Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed Wednesday will return to screens with a second season.
Season 2 will see Jenna Ortega return in the titular role, alongside Emma Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more.
