Outlander isn’t on this week and this is the reason why
But the good news is you can catch the mid-season finale of season seven – Turning Points, episode 8 – very soon!
Outlander fans are gearing up for another bout of ‘Droughtlander’ in their life as the mid-season finale for series seven looms. But some may have been slightly confused today if they were keen to get their final fix of Jamie, Claire and the rest of the fan favourite cast for a while.
There’s a break of two weeks between episode seven and eight, meaning we’ve got to hang on that wee bit longer to get the next instalment. And then there will be a break before the next eight episodes, which are thought to be airing in early 2024.
It was some cliff-hanger fans were left on last week when Jamie was taken out on the battlefield and little Jemmy was kidnapped after Rob Cameron figured out Roger and Brianna’s time-travel secret.
Some fans on twitter have suggested the “story is just getting going” for season seven and they’ve expressed their disappointment at the long interval between the first and second halves of season eight. Producers had said this would be happening to facilitate the bumper season seven – which has extra episodes because to make up for restrictions to filming on season six brought on by the pandemic.
But though it might be frustrating it, one positive way to look at this week’s extra time between episodes is we’re one week closer to the second half of season seven!
According to Lionsgate+, which streams Outlander in the UK, the reason for the extended break between the penultimate and the midseason finale is it’s a “skip week” in the show’s schedule. Lionsgate+ also say it’s “purely a scheduling decision” and it’ll be shown next Friday, August 11 instead.
But what can fans expect when the final episode in this block finally airs? If the trailers for ‘Turning Points’ are anything to go by, they can expect lots.
In the previews, Claire can be seen turning Jamie’s unconscious body over with tears in her eyes, and things don’t look any cheerier for Roger and Brianna, who are dealing with the fact their son has been kidnapped.
Roger will be seen taking matters into his own hands and will tell his wife that he’s going back in time to find their son.
And in 1777, Claire and Young Ian are gearing up for the Second Battle of Saratoga.
But how will things end for Jamie and will Roger be successful in the past? And will Claire be taking part in the battle herself? Who knows! But we know when we can find out – August 11!
There’s been a lot of drama throughout the series but it was to be expected. As we reported earlier this year, Caitriona Balfe had hinted at ‘a lot of peril’ in store for the Fraser clan in Outlander Season 7.
The Irish actress, 43, has played Claire Fraser on the show since 2013 alongside Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser. Speaking at a press event for season seven, Caitriona teased fans about what was in store for the penultimate season.
She said “It was such an epic season. And there’s just so much that happens this year. But yeah, well hopefully, I think the fans will be happy.”
Speaking about what surprised her in season seven, Caitriona added: “There’s quite a lot… This season was really interesting because there are multiple storylines that we follow, instead of it just being, you know… season one was purely through Claire’s perspective.
“Season two, sort of Claire and Jamie’s, and then we’ve slowly opened it up over the years. But this, I feel like this is the most expansive the show has been.”
