Outlander viewers overjoyed as fan favourites make debut in new sneak peek

The seventh season of Starz’s hit Outlander adaptation will introduce even more iconic characters from Diana Gabaldon’s original novels.

Warning – the following article contains major spoilers for Outlander season 7.

Starz’s official Instagram page has revealed a sneak peek at Outlander newcomers Joey Phillips and Izzy Meikle-Small.

They will be portraying brother and sister Denzell and Rachel Hunter in the highly anticipated seventh season of the popular historical drama.

The new post featured the pair in full Quaker garb preparing medicines at a medical tent for the Revolutionary War.

Originally introduced in Diana Gabaldon’s seventh Outlander novel, the pair first come across Ian Fraser Murray (played by John Bell) seeking medical help for William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart).

He arrives at a small Quaker settlement called Oak Grove, and all three later meet up with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) with the Continental Army.

Ian and Rachel become fond of each other on their travels and eventually get married in Gabaldon’s eighth book, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.

Fans were thrilled to get the first glimpse at the exciting newcomers and took to the comments in anticipation of the stories to come.

@exkamenak replied: “I know I will enjoy the Hunters waaaaay more than I enjoyed the Christies….”(sic)

@ksophialydia commented: “Is it normal to cry over production stills at work or not? Asking for myself.

“Rachel is my favourite character in the books and to see her brought to life, and looking so amazing, is truly making me emotional.

“A+ casting. Can’t wait to see Izzy bringing Rachel to life for all the world to see.”

“This is exactly how I have pictured them. Once again, great casting!” @resa876 added.

@leadercarolyn said: “I’ve been looking forward to the show getting to this part in the story. I love the Hunters.”

@starksgoatee wrote: “I love their story in the books so I’m super pumped to see it translated to the screen!”

And @dennasus replied: “I’m so looking forward to Rachel. My favourite female character in this universe after Claire.”

Several fans have also noticed a resemblance between Phillips and Lord John Grey star David Berry, though their characters are unrelated.

Season seven is set to be the penultimate chapter in the Outlander series before the story wraps up with its eighth instalment.

While Jamie and Claire will bring their tale to an end, the saga will thankfully still continue as a spin-off following the iconic Highlander’s parents is currently in the works.
