Terry Matalas “would kill” to write Nicolas Cage in Star Trek 4

Academy Award winner, Nicolas Cage expressed his desire to be on Star Trek again at the Saturn Awards, and Terry Matalas, the showrunner for the final season of Star Trek: Picard, is game to put him there. Matalas, also at the 51st Annual Saturn Awards where he accepted the award for Best Science Fiction Series for Picard, [via Screenrant], said he kind of wants to make Cage a villain. And though Cage doesn’t necessarily want to be a villian, there certainly might be room for compromise as long as the actor ends up on the bridge of the Enterprise. And since other villains have been there, it’s not totally out of the question.

“I have no idea, but I know that I would kill to do it. I mean, what a great… anything! I kind of want to make him a villain. That would be extraordinary, yeah. Star Trek is known for their really juicy, rich, larger-than-life villains, and to watch him chew up the scenery on a Starship would be pretty spectacular. [But] he’s got to be on a bridge. It could be an alien bridge. It could be a Starship, but yeah.”

With Star Trek 4 being billed as the final chapter in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies, having Cage onboard would be an incredible way to wrap up the Chris Pine led films, adding yet another boost of star power.

And though Matalas hasn’t been tapped to write the script for Star Trek 4, he would certainly be the go-to-person for the job. With the recent Saturn win for Star Trek: Picard as well as the popularity of the final season of the series, Matalas has proven that he can write for the fans. Putting Star Trek 4 in his more than capable hands would almost guarantee a high turnount at the film’s release.

Since Star Trek 4 is going to be the last film, it should go out with a bang, and Cage would help make sure that happens, especially if he’s the last, bad villain the crew of the Enterprise have to face. Hopefully, Paramount is paying attention to both Cage and Matalas’ comments!
