“That’d be a sad tribute to the show”: Despite Better Call Saul Success, Vince Gilligan Hates the Idea of Another Breaking Bad Spin-off for a Valid Reason

Fans won’t be getting any “Heisenberg Jr.” spinoff anytime soon

Vince Gilligan brought about some of the most remarkable works of all time for the big screens, and fans couldn’t be more grateful to him for that. Not only was his Breaking Bad television series an exceptionally superhit one, but the spin-off to Walter White’s drama series, Better Call Saul, earned equally critical acclamation from fans worldwide.

Yet, despite the immense success of both blockbuster crime series that wreaked havoc in the entertainment industry for more than a decade altogether, Gilligan does not want another spin-off for the stories. In fact, he ‘hates’ even the idea of the same because of a reason that is genuinely understandable.

Vince Gilligan Turns Down All Hope For Another Spin-Off For Breaking Bad

Recently appearing in an interview with Variety, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan discussed the future of the characters from his superhit television series. He said:

“I’d hate the thought of Walt Jr. following in Walt’s footsteps in the crime business. That’s probably the kind of thing somebody will pitch 10 or 15 years from now — Walter Jr. as an Albuquerque crime lord succeeding where his father failed. I could pretty much guarantee right now that I have no interest in seeing that happen. That’d be a sad tribute to the show.”

He then went on to share his personal views on how all those characters would end up being in the future.

“Every now and then I find myself thinking about those characters, daydreaming about what would have happened to them. When “Breaking Bad” ends, it’s not a very happy ending for those characters at all, but it is presented that their lives go on. I’d like to believe things get better for them.”

Continuing, Gilligan added:

“It’s fun thinking about what would happen to the characters, but it doesn’t rise to the level of, “Gee, I’d like to tell more about the story.” But who knows, in a few years maybe.”

Turns out fans won’t be getting any “Heisenberg Jr.” spinoff anytime soon.

Vince Gilligan Is Super Proud Of Breaking Bad And Better Call Saul

During the same interview, Vince Gilligan then shared how proud he is of both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, both of which he considers the best works of his life.

“It’s the work of my lifetime — “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” — it’ll be the first thing engraved on my tombstone, and I couldn’t be more proud of it. And I kind of wonder if there are further stories to tell, but I don’t want to beat a dead horse.”

He further added:

“I look around and see other storytelling worlds — I’m not going to name names — that feels like, “Boy, they are really sucking that last dime out of that franchise.” I’d hate to see that happen with this. I’d rather err on the side of leaving the party too soon than too late. But never say never. That’s just how I feel right now, but who knows down the line?”

Even though the news about not getting any new stories down the lane for the characters from the series is truly heartbreaking, Vince Gilligan’s incredibly valid and understandable reasoning behind not wanting another spin-off for the superhit stories makes it all worth bearing.
