The Gilded Age Season 4 Script Update And The Fate Of George & Bertha

The Gilded Age season 3 did not go easy on George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon). The couple’s marriage was seemingly already running on borrowed time, and the finale may have just ended it.

The series’ third season ended with George reassessing his marriage to Bertha after a near-death experience. He ultimately decided that he could no longer trust his wife (mainly due to the way she treated their daughter, Gladys, portrayed by Taissa Farmiga) and the marriage couldn’t continue if things didn’t change. He then packs his bags and moves back to New York, leaving Bertha heartbroken. And, to add to the shock, Gladys also revealed to her mother that she was pregnant.

While the finale didn’t explicitly state that they were getting a divorce, things are looking pretty grim. And, the viewers aren’t the only ones who are on the edge of their seats. The Gilded Age’s cast is also just as curious about the couple’s future because none of them have seen the scripts for season 4 yet.

However, this is about to change very soon as several members of the cast confirmed that they will be receiving the first three scripts of the upcoming season soon. In an interview with TV Insider, Cynthia Nixon, who plays Ada Forte, stated, “I’m hearing that we’ll be getting the first three [scripts] very soon, so that’s exciting.

Coon herself offered some insight about her character’s marriage. Despite the series being based on the very real Vanderbilt family, with George and Bertha’s real-world counterparts (Alva and William Vanderbilt) actually getting a divorce, the actress is still optimistic about their relationship. “We haven’t followed the [Vanderbilt] storyline yet, not to a T, so I’m hopeful. Also, Bertha is so tenacious. She never gives up. If she wants George back, that’s what she’s going to get,” she explained.
