Succession

The Perfect Succession Replacement Is Coming To Netflix Next Month (But It’s Not What You’d Expect)

Following the series finale of Succession, fans are looking to find their next fix of family drama, and a new Netflix show is the perfect replacement.

Succession ended following the season 4 finale on May 28, 2023, and just a few short months later, Netflix is dropping a television show that will satisfy the Succession-shaped hole in fans’ hearts. The HBO series told the story of the Roy family — the owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate in New York City. The television show focused on the complex dynamics between the members of the family as they fought over control of the company as the health of their father, Logan, steadily declined.

Succession was loved by millions, and it was critically acclaimed, having been nominated and received several wins at the Primetime Emmy Awards over the course of its four seasons. So, it will be difficult for any one television show to serve as the perfect replacement for the HBO series. Thankfully, fans do not have to wait very long for a show that shares a similar tone to Succession, and it is coming soon to Netflix.

Netflix’s The Fall Of The House Of Usher Is The Surprisingly Perfect Succession Replacement

Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Netflix series, The Fall of the House of Usher, seems like it could give Succession fans their fix of complicated family drama. Of course, the two shows vary significantly regarding genre, with Succession being a satirical comedy-drama and The Fall of the House of Usher being a gothic horror miniseries. But the Netflix series, which premieres on October 12, 2023, and contains eight episodes, revolves around the CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company, Roderick Usher, played by Bruce Greenwood, and his family. This premise might sound familiar to those who watched Succession.

As the title suggests, The Fall of the House of Usher focuses on the destruction of the privileged Usher family, as Roderick’s children become targets and start getting picked off one by one. Of course, the murderous and horrific themes in the Netflix show could not be found in the HBO series, but the two are very similar from a birds-eye view. If those who watched Succession liked it because of the family dynamics, then The Fall of the House of Usher is the perfect replacement for the finished show.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Takes Succession’s Family Horror To The Next Level

The Roy family was not entirely innocent in Succession — their actions and the relationships between them were pretty horrifying. So, it’s not a major stretch to compare the television series to Mike Flanagan’s upcoming show, which is based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. The Fall of the House of Usher will just be more literal when it comes to horror and incorporate more brutal and supernatural elements into the episodes, whereas Succession was more based on reality.
