House of the Dragon

Will the Starks be in House of the Dragon?

Fans are currently waiting for the second season of House of the Dragon, HBO’s prequel to Game of Thrones. Set well over 100 years before Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is about the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal civil war fought between rival factions of the Targaryen family. Brother will fight sister, friend will fight friend, and dragon will fight dragon. It’s gonna be wild.

The first season concerned itself mainly with the Targaryen family, which makes sense; they’re the ones who start all this ruckus. But the second season will open things up a bit. We’re about to meet a lot of new characters and see a lot of new places.

Does that mean we’ll see the descendants of any characters we know from Game of Thrones? For example, we will see what the Starks were up to around 150 years before Bran and Robb and Sansa and Arya came into the picture?

Will the Starks be in House of the Dragon season 2?

If House of the Dragon follows the template set out by George R.R. Martin in his book Fire & Blood, then yes, we will meet some Starks in season 2. In fact, one has already been mentioned: in the season 1 finale of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra Targaryen charged her son Jacaerys Velaryon with flying north and securing an alliance with Cregan Stark, the current lord of Winterfell. He and Jace are both teenagers, so Rhaenyra hopes they can become friends. In the book, they do.

So we’ll definitely meet Jace in season 2, although we don’t know who will be playing him. In the book, it’s mentioned that Jace has a bastard half-sister named Sara Snow. She’s a more minor character so we’re not sure if the show will include her. Cregan also has an uncle named Bennard Stark, who ruled as regent before him. Bennard was slow to give up power, so Jace had him and his three sons imprisoned. I’m doubting we’ll meet them, although they might get a mention.

So winter is once again coming in the second season of House of the Dragon. Prepare to meet some new Starks whenever the show premieres in 2024!
