One Thing About Chicago Fire S12 is Certain: Matt And Sylvie Have to Return

However, even hardcore fans are not ready to throw a celebration party yet.

To say that the last Chicago Fire season was a rough one would be an understatement. While the majority of the fanbase is trying to be as understanding as possible during these turbulent times, they can’t help but wonder where exactly the changes will take the story in the upcoming season 12.

Granted, there is still plenty of time for the team to figure out exactly where they want the series to go. While some people are hopeful enough to believe in Taylor Kinney’s eventual comeback to the Chicago Fire, others don’t think that will be the case.

Considering how abrupt his departure was and how much time has passed without any comment or explanation, fans feel that the upcoming season could bring the finale to Severide’s story. However, the showrunners are throwing in another fan favorite to soften the edges. Matt Casey, portrayed by Jesse Spencer, will be involved in the show again.

The question is: to what extent?

Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the storyline of the season 11 finale hints at the possibility of Casey’s return. It would also be a pretty logical resolution and a nice nod to fans who are increasingly unhappy with the show’s current direction.

It’s almost impossible to imagine Casey’s return without him rekindling his relationship with Sylvie Brett. All viewers know that the passion is still there, as well as the chemistry, so it would be the only logical solution for them to reunite. However, that may not happen on screen.

In fact, what many Chicago Fire fans fear is that this return could mean the beginning of an exit arc for Kara Killmer, who portrays Sylvie on the show.

Whether that is true or not is hard to say. With all the uncertainty going on in the television world these days, it’s a miracle that the show gets renewed at all, so Chicago Fire season 12 may as well be the final chapter for Firehouse 51 as a whole, and not just for one particular character.

To see where time will take the characters, who will return to the show, and whose story will end, be sure to follow all Chicago Fire updates to not miss the season 12 release date announcement.
