Coronation Street legend quits soap role leaving everyone surprised
However, Wendi is set to leave the BBC soap, and the character of Nina Bulsara, behind her, having already filmed her final scenes.
Nina caused a stir among the other characters when she arrived and announced that she was the new partner, and therefore everyone’s boss.
During her time on the show, she has been involved in an explosion and clashed with Binita (Nina Wadia), but she will soon be saying goodbye to The Mill for good.
New of her departure was posted to Instagram by a Doctors fan account, and fans of the show were quick to respond.
‘Oh no I really liked her,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘What a shame, for all her meddling at times I do like her.’
Wendi is well known among Coronation Street fans for playing Cilla Battersby-Brown in the ITV soap.
She played the role for four years between 2003 and 2007, before returning for a six-week stint in 2014. Following her departure, it was revealed that she had moved to Wolverhampton and was living with osteoporosis.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the British Soap Awards earlier this year, Wendi revealed that working on Doctors was ‘pretty similar’ to working on Coronation Street.
‘It’s pretty similar as in there’s so much television to make in so little time, so the schedules are exactly the same. I was used to all that.
‘Because we have a lot less regulars, we’re all busier, which I quite like, I’m a bit of a workaholic so I am really enjoying it.’
Speaking about her highlights on the daytime soap, Wendi said revealed that her first episodes were the standout moments.
‘I think the first two scenes on set getting blown up! What can I say? I arrived and was blown up in a conference centre.
‘But it’s fabulous, it’s just been great since then. She’s come in like a bull in a china shop, no-one likes her – story of my life, really!’
