Major ‘wildchild’ Coronation Street star ‘LEAVES the soap just months after landing role’
A major ‘wildchild’ Coronation Street star is reportedly leaving the soap after just months on the show.
Actress Stephanie Davis, 30, who plays Courtney Vance will soon have her character saying goodbye to the Cobbles, The Sun claims.
The publication reports that while Stephanie – who previously starred in Hollyoaks but was dismissed in 2015 after arriving on set under the influence of alcohol – has ‘impressed with her work’ bosses feel like he story arc is complete.
It comes after her dramatic affair storyline with Aadi Alahan in recent months which ended on Wednesday’s episode when her ex-husband Darren revealed he was giving Courtney a second chance.
Courtney originally left her husband for Aadi after it was revealed that they’d been having an affair which jeopardized Darren’s business relationship with Aadi’s father, Dev.
A source said of her leaving: ‘Steph was over the moon to land a part on Corrie after things went so wrong on Hollyoaks and she had genuinely impressed with her work and commitment to the ITV soap.
‘Naturally she’d hoped that maneater Courtney could stick around for a good few years but bosses feel like the story arc is complete.
‘She’s not being killed off, though, so there’s no reason why Courtney couldn’t one day return and the door remains open to Steph.’
Representatives for Stephanie and ITV have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
On joining the soap, Stephanie shared: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining the cast of Coronation Street, playing the part of Courtney Vance.
‘Growing up I have always watched and loved the show, so to be part of the biggest TV soap in Britain, which is in the hearts and homes of so many people, is an honour.’
It comes after in November 2020 Stephanie quit Hollyoaks after 10 years on the soap as Sinead O’Connor.
The star decided to step down from her role in the Channel 4 show, but admitted at the time it was ‘not on what she wanted but what she knew was right’.
Alongside an image that read ‘goals: be happy’, the actress wrote: ‘Sometimes we make decisions based not on what we want but what we know is right!
‘I have loved bringing Sinead into your homes for the past ten years but it’s with a heavy heart I have decided to leave Hollyoaks and now looking forward to working on new and exciting projects. Excited!’
A Hollyoaks spokesman told MailOnline at the time: ‘In mutual agreement with Lime Pictures Stephanie Davis is leaving her role as Sinead O’Connor on Hollyoaks.
‘We would like to thank Stephanie for her huge contribution to the show and the enjoyment her character Sinead has brought to fans.’
Stephanie’s time on the show saw as many ups and downs, as she was dismissed by bosses back in July 2015 after arriving on set under the influence of alcohol.
Her spokesperson said in a statement at the time: ‘Stephanie’s contract was terminated following warnings for lateness, attendance and after a final incident in which she turned up to set unfit to work because of alcohol consumption.’
A spokesperson for Hollyoaks subsequently confirmed to the MailOnline: ‘Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks. Her contract has been terminated with immediate effect.’
However, all appeared to have been forgiven three years later, when Stephanie announced in May 2018 that she was returning to the long-running show.
She said in a statement at the time: ‘I’m over the moon to be given this amazing opportunity and so excited to bring feisty Sinead back to Hollyoaks.
‘I can’t wait to see all the cast and crew there, many that I have known for years. I just want to get stuck into learning my first scripts I can’t wait to be on set and back acting again, which is my passion.’
Stephanie had been part of the Channel 4 soap since she was 16, after finding fame on Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s show Over The Rainbow.
