ITV Coronation Street’s Eileen Grimshaw star Sue Cleaver confirms soap future after health battle
Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has played Eileen Grimshaw since 2000 and has recently taken a break from the soap
Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver has confirmed she’s not leaving the soap, despite taking a short break to star in Sister Act: The Musical. Sue, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, had to stop filming last year for a hysterectomy operation.
But speaking on Lorraine on Wednesday, March 6, she said she’ll be back on the cobbles as soon as her theatre tour ends. She also hopes her character will find love with current partner George, played by Tony Maudesley from Benidorm.
“I think that George and Eileen should have a big old-fashioned Corrie wedding,” she said. Lorraine agreed, saying: “I want her to be happy because she has had too many horrible men.”
In the past, Eileen has been unlucky in love, even dating serial killer Pat Phelan.
Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw on Coronation Street, opened up about her recent health struggles on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast last month. When asked how she was doing after her surgery, Sue responded: “I am better now. I’ve had a pretty rubbish year. It started off with a hysterectomy and kind of went downhill from then, all out of the blue, weird stuff”, reports Wales Online.
“I was poorly for a while so I’ve been off Corrie and hardly been in it sort of six, seven months, which is really strange. But they’ve been wonderful and very supportive, and I’m actually back in work tomorrow.”
