The Witcher 3 fans horrified to learn they’ve been using Roach wrong for years
Roach is Geralt of Rivia’s loyal companion in The Witcher series whether it be the novels, TV series or video games. Well, I should say “companions” as Roach is the name that Geralt gives to all of his horses.
When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally released in 2015, it’s fair to say that it quickly became one of the most iconic video games of all time and even though it’s not the first game in the series to be inspired by the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, it certainly helped to put polish developer CD Projekt RED on the map.
“You are Geralt of Rivia, mercenary monster slayer. Before you stand a war-torn, monster-infested continent you can explore at will. Your current contract? Tracking down Ciri — the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world,” reads the description of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Those who are familiar with The Witcher series will know that things can get a little stressful in the lands of the Continent, for both Geralt and Roach. To relax from his worldly woes, Geralt can visit a nearby tavern for a glass of mead and a game of Gwent, but what about our dear Roach?
Well, it just so happens that you can also relax Roach too, a detail that some fans may have missed even after all these years. “Today I learned that you can calm Roach down with AXII. Over 100 hours and I’m always finding new things that can be done,” revealed Redditor technetium74.
Calming Roach with AXII not only puts our dear horse at ease but also reduces the risk of her flinging Geralt off the saddle, which is always a nice bonus. “In the next-gen version, Geralt can also pet Roach when standing next to her,” replied MarketingTime4309.
Some of the other Reddit users also pointed out that you’re told how to calm Roach during the tutorial too, which is why it’s always important not to skip video game tutorials. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
