“Forget About Geralt”: Ciri’s On Her Own In The Witcher Season 4, According To Freya Allan

While at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, The Witcher star Freya Allan reveals that Ciri will not cross paths with Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in season 4. Serving as the penultimate season for Netflix’s hit fantasy series, The Witcher season 4 will see Hemsworth make his debut as Geralt of Rivia following Henry Cavill’s departure from the role. Meanwhile, it has already been revealed that Allan’s Ciri will be facing a dark road ahead as she embraces a new outlaw lifestyle with the street gang known as The Rats, with whom she escaped in The Witcher season 3 part 2 finale.

Speaking with Screen Rant at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where she’s promoting her recent hit Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Allan revealed that while her new co-star is “a really nice guy,”she has not seen any of his work as Geralt, as their characters don’t have scenes together in the new season. Instead, Ciri is forging her own path under her new alias, Falka, while trying to forget about her former life with Geralt. Check out her comments below:

There’s no relationship this season. Ciri’s off on her own path and he’s off on his own, and so it’s, “Forget about Geralt.” That’s what Ciri’s in the zone of. “Let’s try and block that out. That never happened. Now I’m Falka; I’m not Ciri.” But as you can see, I sort of haven’t left it behind. I’m sort of still in it now.

But Liam’s lovely; he’s a really nice guy. I haven’t seen anything he’s done because we don’t really have scenes together, but he’s so sweet. I’ve heard that he’s smashing it, so I can’t wait to see what he’s doing.

Is Separating Geralt And Ciri The Best Move For Liam Hemsworth’s Witcher Debut?

While Allan’s revelation that Ciri and Geralt will not be crossing paths in The Witcher season 4 may come as some surprise to audiences, from a narrative standpoint, the move is a necessary sacrifice to allow Ciri’s character to continue her development. Even though Ciri’s time spent with The Rats, and her burgeoning relationship with Mistle (Christelle Elwin), will be far from idyllic, they will offer viewers a chance to see her tread a much darker path without the benefit of Geralt’s protection.

No doubt Ciri and Geralt will eventually find themselves reunited for The Witcher season 5, but perhaps separating the two ahead of the show’s final season could prove beneficial to both characters.

However, another benefit to come from separating the characters may be the potential to allow Hemsworth the space he needs to make the role of Geralt his own. Cavill’s departure as Geralt has drawn considerable attention since it was first announced in October 2022, and Hemsworth will have his work cut out for him to prove himself worthy of succeeding him. As such, the decision to have Geralt off on his own adventures may work in the actor’s favor by limiting his interactions with the show’s more established cast.

No doubt Ciri and Geralt will eventually find themselves reunited for The Witcher season 5, but perhaps separating the two ahead of the show’s final season could prove beneficial to both characters. The show’s established fanbase will no doubt be placing Hemsworth’s performance as Geralt under a great deal of scrutiny, and this new revelation could offer him some small degree of respite by not having to replicate his predecessor’s most important onscreen relationship right away.
