Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding ‘confirms’ full-blown Shona affair amid ‘web of lies’
Just when you thought things could not get any worse between Coronation Street’s Shona and David Platt, actress Julia Goulding has hinted at a full-blown affair for her character.
Corrie fans were left stunned last week, when it was revealed Shona had cheated on David (Jack P. Shepherd) with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
The pair hooked up after Shona found out David had been intercepting calls and prison visiting orders from her son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison), who is locked up for the murder of David’s first wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane).
Speaking about the twist, Julia called Shona’s encounter with Kit ‘pure revenge’ for David having ‘gaslit’ and lied to her about Clayton.
‘I never expected Shona to cheat on David,’ she says. ‘Eight years they’ve been together and she’s always been faithful and never looked at another man. But she was pushed to it!’
She continues: ‘I think it’s out of pure revenge. I don’t think she’s necessarily been lusting after Kit, I don’t think he’s crossed her radar, she’s probably served him a couple of times in Roy’s Rolls, she’s very loyal – so it’s absolute revenge!’
While it looks like Shona and Kit might be a one off, there’s a possibility it could develop into something more next week, when Kit invites her to his hotel room.
‘Would she have an affair? I suppose it depends how good that night was!’ Julia laughs.
‘I think because it was a revenge, she’s obviously tempted because she goes back to the hotel room, so it must have been a really good night! She pops her anorak on and off she goes!
‘David thinks she’s asleep on the sofa. They’ve had another barney, there’s another big push there, and they are not resolving this any time soon, there’s a lot of friction between the pair of them and she does go to the hotel room.
‘She plucks up the courage and knocks on the door, but you’ll have to see what happens!’
It’s the start of what Julia calls ‘a web of lies’ for Shona, who also has to think of a cover story when she gets hit by a car and breaks her arm after leaving Kit’s hotel.
‘She’s got to think quickly,’ Julia reveals. ‘She’s never had to lie, she’s not a David character, she’s doesn’t lie off the cuff, because she is genuinely just a nice easy person to be around, unless you cross her.
‘This is the start of this web of lies that she’s spiralling into. It’s not good for poor Shona.’
