Coronation Street’s Debbie Webster star declared love as fans told ‘be quick’ in ‘breaking hearts’ update

Sue Devaney has been shown plenty of love by her castmates once again as there was a final call for support
Coronation Street star Sue Devaney has been shown plenty of love by her castmates once again as there was a final call for support from the long-running show.
The actress is best known for playing Debbie Webster in the ITV soap, having first made her debut in the role more than four decades ago when she was 16 years old.
Debbie originally moved to the Street as a fifteen-year-old in 1984, with Sue, who hails from Ashton-Under-Lyne, the only actress to have ever portrayed the character, first from 1984 to 1985, then in 2019 before a full-time return in 2020.
But those who closely follow the Greater Manchester institution will be aware that Sue will eventually be leaving, after Debbie was given a devastating health diagnosis.
In scenes aired in April, viewers saw Debbie growing concerned about her memory loss and booked an appointment at a private clinic, believing her symptoms may be related to the menopause.
After discussing a series of recent incidents, shown as flashback scenes, including a blackout and fall, the doctor advised her that he wants her to have further tests as he was concerned that she is showing symptoms of early-onset vascular dementia.
Corrie is now showing Debbie’s life as it unfolds with the devastating diagnosis, with Sue recently speaking out on taking on the important storyline and how she is expecting to remain on screen until at least 2027.
Amid praise for her portrayal, Sue has been shortlisted for a gong at this year’s National Television Awards. She is going up against her Corrie co-star Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, in the Best Serial Drama Performance category.

The two Salford-based soap stars will also go up against their Yorkshire colleague, Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle Dingle, while representing Walford will be EastEnders stars Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning) and Steve MacFadden (Phil Mitchell).
With days to go until the awards take place live at London’s O2, and being aired on ITV, Corrie has done some final call-outs for votes. Alongside clips of Sue’s performances in the soap of late, a message read: “She’s a superstar, and she is breaking the nation’s hearts with this storyline.
“Vote now for the phenomenal Sue Devaney at this year’s National Television Awards. Be quick, time is running out! (Link to vote in our bio!).”
