Ciri and Yennefer aside, a new strong female character is coming.
In The Witcher, unlike many other medieval fantasy novels, there are a number of strong female characters who achieve everything on their own.
Ciri and Yennefer have already been introduced to audiences, and it’s time for another strong woman to make an appearance in the Netflix project.
Milva, also known as Maria Barring, will appear in season 3 of The Witcher. It is believed that Milva is currently hiding under the codename “Marylebone” and is described as a woman with a sharp mind and a quick blade; her age belies her experience as she has been forced to mature quickly and learn how to survive in a cruel world.
Her role in Season 3 will be a recurring one, and she will most likely have her own storyline. At the end of the season, Milva will meet Geralt and help him in a “terrible situation,” which will start their journey together.
Only one thing about Milva raises questions. Originally, she skillfully uses a bow, while the show decided to change her weapon to a blade. This can be both a kind of distraction and a major change in the image created by Andrzej Sapkowski.
According to Sapkowski’s original source, after the death of her beloved father, Maria reacted negatively to the stepfather’s appearance in the family.
At the age of 15, having miraculously escaped the sexual harassment of her mother’s husband, she left her house.
Pursued by foresters, she was forced to begin poaching in the Brokilon region and one day fell into a trap set by dryads. The dryads did not kill Maria, but recognized her as one of their own.
Later, Maria repeatedly helped the dryads by luring punitive expeditions against them into traps, at the same time earning her nickname – Milva (translated from Elder Speech as “Vulture”).
Then, she began to help the Scoia’tael: she led the defeated brigades out of ambushes and traps, served as a guide to Brokilon, where the elves had the opportunity to rest and form new battle-ready units, and as a sign of special trust, the elves called her sor’ca – “sister.”
The creators of The Witcher have already promised viewers that the third season will follow the books more closely than previous seasons, so fans can only hope that the on-screen Milva will not be a pale shadow of her book counterpart.
