Coronation Street has aired a sudden exit for Isabella as she departed the Cobbles this evening for good.

Brian has been struggling with having his own space since the arrival of his cousin Isabella. She had originally said she was staying for a short visit but she eventually ended up staying for a long while and had been adjusting to life on the Cobbles.

Isabella has said she couldn’t return home because builders were working on her house so she couldn’t come back, but Mary eventually convinced Isabella that her and Brian were dating and wanted to move in together so she needs to leave.

As they called a taxi for Isabella, Mary and Brian were joined by Sean to bid farewell to his cousin after her long stay on the Cobbles.

“I’m so glad I’ve seen you before I go,” she mused sarcastically, before adding: “Suddenly leaving doesn’t seem so bad.”

As Brian and Mary ensured she had everything so she wouldn’t need to come back ever again, Brian said she must be looking forward to going back to her home, with “the sun and the vines and the palm trees swaying in the wind”, before she jumped in to add the “builders banging in the bedroom” would be making all the sound and that’s what she would have to put up with.

Brian suggested she should catch up with the neighbours, but she said they were just as welcoming as they were on the Cobbles. Mary quickly opened the door for Isabella, shooing her into the taxi as they said their goodbyes.

As they bid farewell, Brian lamented over a “dismal chapter of his life” being over once again as Mary tried to console him. It is clear his feelings for Mary run much deeper than she realises, and he seemed taken by her sweet comments about him as a person.

“You mean so much to me,” he told Mary, as he thanked her for what she had done. She then said that was what friends were for, before she patted him on the chest, with him clearly gutted that that was all she saw him as.

Peter Gunn – who plays Brian – had previously teased the drama Isabella would bring.

“I keep thinking that she’ll come out with a broad Lancashire accent at some point! But no, she is Italian and she is my Italian cousin. I think she’s hiding something back in Italy, but I don’t know what,” he quipped, “I think something’s going on, because she wanted to come here, rather than us go there. So she’s either running away from something or she’s just very unpopular!”
