AND CUT! Coronation Street star confirms exit with emotional post saying ‘I’m going to miss this so much’
CORONATION Street actor Alex Bain has confirmed his exit from the soap after 15 years.
The Sun first told last year how the star – who plays Simon Barlow – will bow out in an explosive storyline to air this summer.
Alex, 22, has now revealed he has pretty much finished filming for good, admitting he will “miss it”.
Alongside a picture of himself on set, Alex wrote: “Well my day is done! Nice and short day today! I’m gonna miss this little space some dearly when I go!”
He added: “So glad I’ve got some shooting days left! So thankful! ”
Alex landed the role as a seven-year-old and shocked fans in 2018 when he revealed he was becoming a teenage dad in real life.
Speaking of his exit last year, a source said: “Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family — but he realises that the time is right to move on.
“He’s very excited about the future and other opportunities.”
Alex’s then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth shortly after her 16th birthday to daughter Lydia-Rose. Alex — 16 when Levi fell pregnant — was 17 and had only just sat his GCSE exams.
He has been involved in a string of controversial Corrie storylines and won the British Soap Award for Best Young Actor in 2011.
He was joined on stage by Chris Gascoigne, who played his dad Peter Barlow – and he has since left the soap too.
Simon has been struggling to cope in the ITV soap opera since the sudden departure of his father from the cobbles.
It has seen him find himself at a difficult period in his life with him appearing to struggle socially – and hitting the booze a lot.
Replying to fans about working with Chris, Alex said: “@christgascoyneofficial is one of the most amazing and complete actors I’ve had the pleasure of working with on Corrie!
“He is one of the utterly incredible people I had the joy to learn and hone the craft of acting with, and I will always be grateful for all he has done.”
