Chicago Fire Boss Teases Major Stellaride Development, but That Doesn’t Mean a Happy End

We can only hope they both are here for season 13.

To say that the Chicago franchise went through a lot of changes this TV season would have been an understatement. All of the comings and goings of the series’ cast members were overshadowed by the news that Chicago Med was losing its showrunners. Hopefully, next season, which has already been greenlit for all three shows, will go more smoothly.

However, Chicago Fire fans are already having their doubts about the show’s cast for the upcoming season 13. And even though the team behind the show is teasing some seemingly positive changes, viewers prefer to remain cautious.

Is Taylor Kinney Leaving Chicago Fire?

So far, there have been no official reports suggesting that Firehouse 51 is about to lose its lead, Kelly Severide, but given the complexity of his current storyline, fans wouldn’t put it past Chicago Fire. With all the mysteries surrounding the various investigations, Severide seems ready to leave the entire team behind, including his wife Stella.

However, we wouldn’t jump to conclusions. Even though Kinney took a leave of absence for most of season 11 and doesn’t seem to be around this season, that doesn’t mean the actor is leaving. One thing is going to change, though, whether fans like it or not, and that’s the nature of the Stellaride relationship.

Speaking to TVLine, Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman had to be very careful not to say too much. Still, she had something very big to tease viewers about the upcoming season 12 finale:

“If Severide can overcome a terrifying crime in [Episode] 1211 and make it to the finale, there could be a major revelation for Kelly and Stella then. And that is all I’ll say on that!” she said.

Surely Severide is strong enough to overcome any obstacle, especially with Stella at his side. However, a “major revelation” is too vague a phrase to be sure that it means anything good. Though fans of the couple are hoping to see them take their marriage to the next level and talk about children, there is another, much darker possibility.

Considering how much fighting the couple has gone through, and how hard it was to reconcile, some people believe that this crime Newman is referring to could be Stella’s cue to break up and let Kelly live his life on the edge without making hers depend on it. Sometimes love and passion aren’t enough to get you through.

No matter where the story goes, fans can only hope that both Taylor Kinney and his on-screen wife Miranda Rae Mayo will return for season 13. If you are excited to see where the season takes the couple, be sure to tune in to NBC every Wednesday beginning May 1 to never miss another Chicago Fire episode.
