Coronation Street fans were stunned after discovering soap legend Tina O’Brien’s connection to Adolescence’s rising star Owen Cooper.

The teenage actor has taken Netflix by storm after the British drama hit the streaming platform earlier this month.

With each of the four episodes filmed in one continuous take, Adolescence captivated audiences with its tale about how social media and misogynistic influencers can impact young boys.

Owen Cooper, 15, was star of the show with his portrayal of Jamie Miller – a teenager accused of murdering a girl at his school.

He has stunned viewers with his impressive acting skills and has bagged himself further roles including young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation.

Another interesting element to the young star is his surprising connection to Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien.

Owen attended acting school The Drama MOB in Manchester which was founded by the soap star.

The school posted a tribute to the youngster and said: ‘Where do we even begin?! We are beyond proud of Owen for absolutely smashing this role and tackling such a challenging and sensitive subject.

‘Adolescence, the new Netflix drama, follows the story of a 13-year-old accused of murdering a classmate, leaving his family, therapist, and the detective in charge questioning what really happened.

‘Being able to secure such a major role is incredible in itself, but Owen has completely blown everyone away – and the reviews say it all!

‘It’s also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our incredible teaching team, who are committed to nurturing talent and helping our students thrive! You can check it out now on Netflix!’

Tina co-founded the school back in 2013 and shot to fame on Corrie in 1999 as Sarah Platt. She also played Bex Fisher in BBC’s Waterloo Road.

Adolescence became the most streamed series of the week in over 70 countries and saw almost 25million views in just four days after its release.

Despite the success, co-creator Jack Thorne, who wrote the show with star Stephen Graham, has dashed fans’ hopes of a second season.

Issuing a brutal four-word response when asked about the show’s future on Tuesday’s This Morning, Jack said: ‘Jamie’s story is finished.’

‘I don’t think there’s anywhere more we can take Jamie, so I don’t think there’s a series two,’ he added.

‘We’d love to explore the one-shot format in another way, we’d love to tell other stories in other ways, but I don’t think a series two of Adolescence is quite right for us.’

Tina O’Brien recently made headlines after splitting from her husband Adam Crofts after seven years of marriage, after weeks of speculation.

According to insiders the pair separated three months ago after growing apart.

Friends revealed: ‘Tina and Adam have ended their relationship and are spending some time apart. They moved house at Christmas and have decided to live separately for the time being.

The couple, who share a ten-year-old son Beau, are said to be ‘on good terms’ for the sake of their son but their differing lifestyles reportedly drove them apart.

The insider told The Sun: ‘Adam and Tina lead very different lives – he is really into his fitness, while she really enjoys going out with her mates and having a dance, which just isn’t for him.

‘It wasn’t an issue at first because they were head over heels, but as the kids have started to grow up it’s become more noticeable.

‘Adam likes a quiet life and unfortunately that just isn’t Tina.’
