Coronation Street fans say ‘can’t believe it’ as Ken Barlow ‘replaced’

Coronation Street fans have been left scratching their heads as they believe Ken Barlow has been “replaced” in a major storyline on the long-running ITV soap opera

Coronation Street viewers are convinced that Ken Barlow has been “replaced” on the iconic ITV soap. The legendary Ken, portrayed by William Roache, has been gracing the cobbles since day dot in 1960.

The actor is practically TV royalty after clocking up over six decades on our screens, and his character Ken has recently been tangled up in a juicy plotline. Ken’s granddaughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) got herself mixed up with a dodgy cult called The Institute, thanks to Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) misguided help.

Cult honcho Rowan Cunliffe (played by Emrhys Cooper) snared Leanne by exploiting her weak spots, and she, in turn, roped in Amy, thinking it would be just the ticket for her to deal with her own issues. In Wednesday’s drama-packed episode (August 28), Amy got her hands on her inheritance from gran Deirdre, only to chuck it into The Institute’s coffers.

But when Amy endured a nightmare ritual where her deepest insecurities were screamed at her by a crowd, she did a one-eighty and demanded her £40k back.

Leanne assured her it was all above board, but then rocked up later to drop the bombshell that the dosh had been funnelled to a “parent company”, making it a right palaver to retrieve.

Amy’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), clueless about the cash handover, vowed to get the police involved to recover the lost loot, reports the Liverpool Echo.

After Corrie’s latest shocker hit the telly on ITV, the soap bigwigs uploaded a clip to the show’s Instagram official. Captioned simply as “Poor Amy. What has she done? “, it didn’t take long for the audience to fire off their opinions.

Loads of fans pointed fingers at Leanne, some showed sympathy towards Amy, while others were confused about why Ken would hand out Amy’s inheritance so hastily.

One fan said: “Ken would not have been duped like that” as a second chimed in with: “Ken should have at least advised her to not invest her entire £40K. Even if it was a legit business, risking her entire savings was a bad move.”

One Corrie fan exclaimed: “Why have they replaced Ken with an unintelligent fool”, as another added: “I can’t believe Ken fell for that rubbish”.
