Coronation Street star addresses future on ITV soap and plans to quit
Coronation Street’s Ryan Connor star Ryan Prescott has opened up on his future on the cobbles and admitted Covid changed his plans, as he shared hopes for a “more grounded” character
Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor on the ITV soap, has opened up on his plans for the future and whether his character is staying on the cobbles for the long term.
The star only recently returned to Weatherfield after a break, which followed a dramatic storyline that saw Ryan have an affair with Daisy Midgley (played by Charlotte Jordan). The rollercoaster romance abruptly ended, and Daisy ended up back with Daniel (Rob Mallard) soon after.
As the duo’s romance fell apart once more, Daniel ended up embarking on a new relationship with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) instead. This paved the way for Ryan’s grand return to the cobbles, and the character was determined to tell Daisy the truth about his feelings.
In recent episodes, the duo shared a kiss that appeared to cement a rekindling between them, but will he stick around this time? While the actor admitted he’s looking forward to doing “different things” and leave soap work behind, a number of factors changed his initial plan only to be on Corrie for five years.
Ryan explained that he realised just “how good he’s got it” when the coronavirus hit in 2020, two years after he first joined the cast. Speaking to the Daily Star at the TV Choice Awards, he mused: “Well it’s been six years now, so I always said to myself I probably wouldn’t do more than five, but then we had Covid and everything changed.
“It’s one of those realities of life, and as I got older, you kind of realise how good you’ve got it. Somewhere where people care about you, people that we work with that make every day different.”
The star went on to say that having a good close group of colleagues is the “most important thing” for him on-set. While he’d “love” to go on and do something completely different, he’s “just not sure”.
Ryan’s character suffered an acid attack in the first couple of years following his arrival on the cobbles, and it was one of the most intense and difficult storylines to play on-screen. Since then, the Weatherfield lothario has been flitting from one relationship to the next, and the actor admitted he hopes that his character will become “more grounded” in the future or even get involved in a more traditional relationship.
