Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley discusses ‘return’ after 7 years
Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has revealed the ITV soap have asked her to return on more than one occasion.
The actress, 41, played Eva Price on the long-running drama for seven years between 2011 and 2018.
Eva is the estranged half-sister of Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who was introduced alongside their mum Stella (Michelle Collins) to be the new owners of the Rovers Return.
She was at the centre of several high profile stories during her stint, including giving birth to a baby – Susie – who she gave to Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) to raise as her own child.
Toyah had struggled with fertility issues and when her surrogate miscarried, Eva agreed to hand over her baby instead.
The big secret was later revealed, and she left for a new life in France with Susie, just weeks after the infant’s father Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) took his own life.
Since her departure, Catherine has appeared in Strictly Come Dancing, BBC comedy Scarborough and Midsomer Murders.
Now, she has discussed a potential return to the Corrie cobbles.
‘Coronation Street feels like forever ago, but I always look back with such great fondness’ she told Prima magazine.
‘They’ve asked me to go back a couple of times over the years, and it just so happened that I was busy with other projects.
‘But if they approached me with an amazing storyline and the time was right, of course, I’d go back. So it’s always a case of never say never.’
Catherine has also reunited with Shayne Ward in Channel 5 drama The Good Ship Murder, which returns for a second series next week.
The series follows cabaret singer Jack Grayling (Ward) who uses his skills as a former detective on a luxury cruise liner when a passenger is found murdered on board.
The pair star alongside soap royalty Claire Sweeney, better known as Corrie’s Cassie Plummer and in a previous life, as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside.
Former Hollyoaks star Ross Adams will also appear in the new episodes alongside Lorna Laidlaw, who left Coronation Street last year as Aggie Bailey.
Each episode ends with Jack performing a song in the ship’s cabaret lounge.
High camp on the high seas!
