Coronation Street star lets slip Roy Cropper’s soap future after backstage revelation
Roy Cropper may not get his freedom back any time soon. Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon hinted the fan favourite could remain behind bars with a huge revelation on This Morning.
Coronation Street viewers have feared the worst for Roy Cropper and according to Lucy Fallon, he could stay in prison for linger than expected.
The Bethany Platt actress chatted to Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary this Wednesday on This Morning as the hosts grilled her over the mystery around Lauren Bolton’s disappearance. Wayward teen Lauren (portrayed by Cait Fitton) vanished from the cobbles earlier this year and authorities have suggested she was murdered after finding blood in her abandoned flat.
Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was then pointed out as the last person to have seen the troubled character, when dropping off the rest of her wages from her job at the Roy’s Rolls cafe and, unfortunately for him, this was enough for DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) to throw him in the slammer and toss away the key – perhaps permanently.
When questioned about what she could reveal to ITV viewers at home by Josie, Lucy suggested that Roy’s future on the Manchester-based soap may be sealed as she made a surprising revelation about David Neilson’s physical transformation.
“Poor Roy”, she started off when the beloved café owner was first brought up, before adding: “it’s really hard as well because I keep seeing David in the green room, he’s got this long beard that he’s grown because he’s in prison.”
While this could be a hint that Roy will be staying in prison for Lauren’s disappearance and potential murder, despite fans being firmly convinced he’s innocent, Lucy said she was hopeful he would “get the justice that he deserves.”
Fans have been craving justice for Roy as multiple characters in Weatherfield take a stand to get him released from prison, from his long-term friend Carla Connor to her nephew, and Lauren’s love interest, Bobby Crawford. But their efforts have been in vain. Earlier this year, viewers of the long-running drama were hoping that one Coronation Street legend would return after 12 years of absence to save Roy, but no comeback has been reported to be in the works as of yet.
Elsewhere, viewers have been racking their brains over who Lauren’s mystery ex-boyfriend could be, with some insisting Joel Deering (Calum Lill) may be the culprit. “Somebody has Lauren tied to a radiator like in Black Snake Moan with Sam Jackson and Christina Ricci. I bet it’s Joel”, one viewer notably penned on social media.
Christopher Harper’s return as Nathan Curtis has also added fuel to the fire as the mystery continues this week on ITV and due to her history with the sex offender, Bethany has grown convinced he could have attacked Lauren himself as he did her when she was still a teenager. Nathan was attacked by Gary Windass (Mikey North) who was just as certain as Bethany – but is he really responsible? Will Roy ever be free again?
