Coronation Street’s Gail Platt to have SEVENTH wedding ahead of Helen Worth’s exit
Gail Platt is to marry for the seventh time on ‘Coronation Street’ ahead of Helen Worth’s departure from the ITV soap
Gail Platt is set to walk down the aisle for the seventh time on ‘Coronation Street’, with the iconic soap character, portrayed by Helen Worth since her debut in July 1974, gearing up for another wedding. This follows Helen Worth’s announcement earlier this year that she would be leaving the show.
Insiders have revealed that filming for Gail’s latest nuptials to Jesse Chadwick, played by John Thomson, is already in progress. A source shared with The Sunday People: “The wedding scenes are being filmed and when they air, viewers will be gripped. As with any soap wedding, they will have to wait and see whether Gail makes it down the aisle or not. With a character as popular as her, they will be hoping she finally gets a happy ending.”
Gail’s marital history includes her first husband Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten), whom she married in 1979 and had two children with, Nick (Ben Price) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien). Despite remarrying Brian in 1988, he was tragically killed soon after. She then wed nurse Martin Platt (Sean Wilson) in 1991, with whom she had David (Jack Shepherd), but their marriage ended in 2001 amid Martin’s affair and Sarah’s teenage pregnancy. Her 2002 marriage to Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) infamously concluded with his reveal as a serial killer and a dramatic plunge into the canal with her family.
Gail’s love life reads like a soap opera script in itself, marrying Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale) in 2010 after Richard did not survive a previous ordeal. Their marriage met an abrupt end when Joe attempted to fake his demise for an insurance scam, only to tragically drown.
Gail found herself in prison, accused of Joe’s murder but was released after proving her innocence. She later found love under unusual circumstances with Michael Rodwell (Les Dennis) after he robbed her house in 2014, leading to their marriage a year later.
Sadly, Michael suffered a fatal heart attack after just a year of marriage. The quick adaptation of Gail’s exit storyline followed Sean Wilson’s unexpected exit from the show for “personal reasons”, though he was noted to return as Martin.
Jesse entered the scene as a kids’ entertainer in 2008 and briefly dated Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) — Gail’s rival — before his own exit in 2010.
