Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd ‘won’t speak to on-screen mum’ after leaving soap
Jack P. Shepherd has said he won’t speak to former Coronation Street co-star Helen Worth, who played his on-screen mum Gail Platt, once she has officially left the soap
Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd, who portrays David Platt in the iconic soap, has confessed that he doesn’t typically keep in touch with former co-stars, including his on-screen mum, Helen Worth.
During a recent episode of the On The Sofa podcast, Shepherd admitted to his fellow Corrie stars and co-hosts, Colson Smith and Ben Price, that he generally doesn’t initiate contact with anyone, causing much amusement among his colleagues.
He stated: “No, I usually don’t; I don’t. If the opportunity arises, and they phone me, I’ll answer”, prompting laughter from his co-host who quipped: “If they ring him”.
When asked if he had spoken to Helen since her departure from the show, the 36 year old actor confirmed that he hadn’t. However, Jack added: “That’s just all walks of life. I don’t ring anyone really. Who do you ring?”
His co-stars revealed they had indeed reached out to her. Helen’s character, Gail Platt, recently suffered a near-fatal heart attack on the show, leading to her exit after 50 years.
Corrie enthusiasts were clued in on Helen’s departure from the cherished soap since her announcement in June, where she expressed: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”
“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers, who were very kind and understanding.”
Hailing from Morecambe, Lancashire as Cathryn Helen Wigglesworth, Helen began her Corrie journey just a few years following her mother’s untimely loss in a hit-and-run incident at age 20.
She first graced the cobbles in 1974, while also featuring in TV favourites like ‘Doctor Who’s ‘Colony in Space” and ‘The Doctors’, reports the Liverpool Echo.
For her contributions to drama, Helen received the honour of an MBE from the Prince of Wales.
