Giancarlo Esposito Addresses Potential Return to Star Wars as The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon
Giancarlo Esposito says he would love to return as Moff Gideon in another Star Wars project; however, he hasn’t received a call to do so yet.
In a new video posted by GQ Magazine, Esposito was asked by a fan if he has any plans to return to Star Wars at some point.
“I love the Star Wars universe,” he answered. “I don’t have any plans because they haven’t called me. [I] love Moff Gideon because you have something I want.”

When asked about his theory on how Moff Gideon would be able to come back, Esposito said, “Come on. I came back to the third season [of The Mandalorian]. I didn’t have a mustache. Then you see all these clones. Put it together.”
Esposito debuted as the villainous Moff Giddeon in the seventh episode of the first season of The Mandalorian, which was released in December 2019. He serves as the main antagonist of the Star Wars series, which earned him Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Lucasfilm announced that a new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, was being developed in 2024. So far, no cast for the forthcoming movie has been confirmed by the company, meaning it’s possible but not necessarily certain that Moff Gideon will show up.
The Mandalorian & Grogue is being directed by Jon Favreau, who is also producing the movie alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. The movie is expected to begin filming in June 2024. It does not have an official release date at this time; although, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently said that it would likely hit theaters in 2026.
